Peep Show [Explicit Lyrics]

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - David Sprague
You've gotta respect a band that swings for the fences with its first-plate appearance in the big leagues, and that's exactly what this Texas-bred quartet does on their self-titled debut. Front man and namesake Johnny Goudie doesn't have much time for subtlety or small gestures. Instead, he's immersed himself and his bandmates in a stew of glammy, slammy influences that range from the sleazy strut of the New York Dolls evident on the lascivious "Baby Hello" to the unrepentant new wave hookiness which crops up in "Julie," cowritten by Jane Weidlin of the Go-Go's. Guitarist Jimmy Messer contributes to the sonic sweep via old-school riffing that alternately recalls Mick ...

Front man and namesake Johnny Goudie doesn't have much time for subtlety or small gestures. Guitarist Jimmy Messer contributes to the sonic sweep via old-school riffing that alternately recalls Mick Ronson on the shimmering "Buy Me" and Thin Lizzy-era Gary Moore. Unlike the vast majority of today's guitar-toting rabble, Goudie are neither pissed off nor moped out: They simply want to have a good time, all the time. And if that sounds too Spinal Tap to you, well, go off somewhere and break stuff -- the Peep Show awaits everyone else.
All Music Guide - MacKenzie Wilson
Goudie follows the neo-glam stylings of Nancy Boy, Placebo, and the Manic Street Preachers, complete with a sultry snarl. Signed to Metallica's Lars Ulrich's Music Company label, Goudie's debut Peep Show is a daring effort with hard rock layers written all over it. Elements of electronic synth beats also hint around, but it's the funkiness of it all that makes Peep Show a decent introduction to Goudie. Songs such as "Baby Hello" and "Sugar Daddy" blast with naughty guitar riffs, and frontman Johnny Goudie's lazy drawl is campy for a rollicking and adventurous rock & roll time. "Julia" is another stammering rock track, distorted riffs rising above the overall hushing tone of the song. However, Peep Show is too glossy for the TRL crowd, but not too abrasive for those third wave punk revivalists.
