Children's LiteratureAGERANGE: Ages 5 to 10.
The introduction to this addition in the "Pencil, Paper, Draw!" series stresses fun and practice. It even reminds budding artists to date and display their drawings in order to track their progress. Two pages of "How to Use This Book" show a tried and true method of drawing, starting with basic shapes and adding details to build toward the final image. Over the course of sixty-four pages, step-by-step directions are given for twenty-eight different baby animals. Along with the usual suspects, readers can learn to draw a baby fox, baby hippo, baby seal, and baby sea turtle. Artists of any age (even this reviewer could produce a reasonably cute baby duck) will easily find success at drawing the cartoonlike baby animals. Serious ‘artistes' may find the drawings too simplistic and easy to accomplish. The book concludes with a note about the author/artist and a listing of his other books. Reviewer: L. F. Wade
