Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Judy Crowder
Penguins, with their characteristic waddle, distinct coloring, and aerodynamic bodies designed for swimming, are a popular bird for young children to study. This book, part of the "Under the Sea" series, offers a fine overview about these remarkable flightless birds for very young readers. The book includes information about what penguins are, how they vary in size (some are as small as one backpack; others as big as three backpacks stacked up), where they live, how they keep warm, hunt for small fish or krill, build nests, and so on. Nuzzolo, along with consulting editor Gail Saunders-Smith and consultant Ray Davis, Senior Vice President of Aquatic Operations, Georgia Aquarium, offer an easy-to-understand text. Illustrations are lush, deserving of a second and third look. Included are glossary, index, bibliography, and age-appropriate websites as well as a note to parents/teachers. Well recommended for classroom, school, or public libraries. Reviewer: Judy Crowder
