"I'm not the hero in this story, girl. You'd do best to remember that."

Once upon a time, I was an eighteen year old psychology student.
Now, I'm a man's property.
Stolen and sold, I've been decorated in bruises since the day my world changed two years ago.
I suffer in silence, I crave freedom, but I never break.
I can't.
Until he arrives.

Read this story in one day - difficult to put down. It is a dark story, but the heroine is so strong you have to root for her. I will be purchasing the entire series, 212 pages on my nook.

I thoroughly loved the exciting, addicting, and heartbreaking dark romance that I honestly could not take my eyes off the spellbinding story. I received an ARC for an honest review. At the age of 18, Tasmin is kidnapped, sold as sex slave to a cruel and abusive man, Alrik Asbjorn, and Tasmin's name becomes Pimlico. No matter what Alrik does to Pim, who he shares her with, torture, beatings, and broken bones, Pim refuses to talk. When a business man, Elder Priest, comes to Alrik's house, Priest wants her and Alrik does not want to share with Priest. Alrik takes out his temper on Pim. Read the highly recommended, first book in the series by the phenomenally talented best selling author of Dark Romance, Pepper Winters. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series, Dollars!

Pennies is book one in the Dollar series. I wound up grabbing this book as a freebie, though it looks like it's no longer on sale. It's well worth the $0.99 though! This is a very dark story of a girl sold into sex slavery. It's not my typical type of read but with all of the good reviews floating around I knew I had to read it. I wound up reading this in one sitting, it's an attention grabber for sure. Our story starts with Tasmin Blythe attending a fundraiser for her mother. She's the pretty rich girl, you know the type. For that reason alone we find out she's strangled, then revived at the fundraiser and winds up being kidnapped to be sold to the highest bidder. The men change her name to Pimlico (the city where the fundraiser was held) and sell her to the highest bidder. He turns out to be a man named Alrik Asbjorn who immediately whisks her off to his house in Crete and locks her in to do whatever he wants. The story is told in a mixture of diary type entries as well as normal story line. It was an interesting touch and one I appreciated since the diary type entries held the more sinister type actions (rape, etc) so we didn't get a ton of details on that thankfully. Alrik basically keeps her there for two years at this point and while she might be subservient to him, she refuses to speak at all so she still has some control in that aspect. That pisses him off beyond belief so we do see some scenes of him abusing her due to that. This is where our story gets interesting. Alrik invites someone over for dinner which he never does and gives Pimlico some clothing and expects her to act the part of doting girlfriend. Elder Prest is the guest of honor yet he somehow sees right through Pimlico's disguise and actually treats her like a human being. Though Pimlico still holds her silence, Mr. Prest is able to understand her body language and decode it somehow. It was an interesting turn and I hoped she'd somehow be able to get out from Alrik's clutches. Pennies is such a dark story but utterly captivating. As I said earlier, I finished this book in one sitting which is something I very rarely do. I had to know what would happen to Pimlico and boy do I want the next book in the series right now. I never expected to wind up enjoying a book about a sex slave but it's so well-written that it's hard not to. If you're a fan of dark books, I think you'd enjoy this novel.

True, this is a very dark story but once I started reading, I could not put it down. I was dying to see Pim find some small piece of happiness. Just the idea that she was able to survive her torture gives the reader insight into a humans inner strength. Can't wait to read the next book in the series. I cannot imagine anyone surviving such a horrific experience without it totally destroying them. Beet the odds, Pim.

Pepper does it again! This book is incredibly dark and hard to read at times, but you can't help but root for Pim, the heroine. Very confused about Elder at this point, is he a good guy or just another bad guy? Can't wait to find out. Anxiously awaiting the next in this series, sad it looks like I'll be waiting a while.

There isn't a book Pepper has written than I haven't fallen into completely from the moment I read the first page.... Her writing draws you in, makes you feel as though you know every every thought and feeling and can experience it as close as possible without physically dragging you in. You head and your heart will be never quite be the same though... This story was heartbreaking, watching Pim's struggle and abuse, on top of the connection between Pim and Elder.... all while he struggles to do what is right while he himself is a monster at heart... FABULOUS dark book, can't recommend Pepper's writing enough.. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended dark read!!

A deep & dark swirling cesspool of secrets, intrigue & depravity. There is some seriously dark subject matter here. So unless you really love a good dark romance, this read may not be for you. If you loved Pepper Winters' Indebted series, please proceed! Not all the horrors are described in detail, but there is still enough to make it a little shocking and uncomfortable. There isn't anything in here that pushed me past my own comfort zone. I have certainly read far more graphic scenes before. There won't be any swooning in this book. Just a lot of raw and twisted emotions. I have a feeling it's going to be a steep, uphill climb to the happy place with this series! I can't wait to see what happens next!!!

!MIND-BLOWING! Pure Brilliant Darkness!! Pepper Winters has done it again! She continues to amaze me, and when I thought she couldn't go any more darker, she brings something that is so graphically dark, intense, tortured, violent and heartbreaking at times, that I just don’t know if I should love it or hate it because I was left me wanting more. Tasmin was taken when she was 18 years old and sold to a masochistic, who has been abusing her for two years. What I love about her character is that she's very determined, but has surrendered her will by conditioning herself in order to survived this monster's abuse. Elder is not only a thief, but also a dark and dangerous killer. However, he is the first person that has shown Tasmin a little compassion. I was drawn into the story with the emotional and psychological connection every single one of Pepper's characters evoke. I was part of their journey and felt everything they were freaking feeling. OMG! It took me a while to put myself together. The twist and turns, the ability to create such an amazing darkness and leave the readers crying for more. OMG!! How can one become so addicted to such darkness? Overall, this book it's bloody-fantastic and I love it!! Just remember, this is my personal opinion, and this is what I like!!

I am not sure where to start with this review. The beginning? Probably. The middle? Maybe. The end? Never. Pim was a normal girl living her life. Going to school. Going to parties. Hanging with friends. Then she wasn't. Murdered, brought back to life, sold into a life of sadistic slavery. It will not break her. It will make her stronger. Through the sex, the torture, the humiliation, the sheer madness, she will not break. Enter Elder Prest. Life is about to change. This book took me way out of my comfort zone. It made my heart ache, brought me to tears more than once, made me angry, made me sad. Very fews books have affected me like this one and it's only book 1 in a 5 book series. I would love to get inside the mind of Pepper Winters to discover what she is thinking and how she puts those words on papers. That alone would make for a fascinating story. Until book 2 is released, I will just have wait, anxious and full of anticipation. If I had read this book first but knew all 5 were available, I would immediately skip to 5. I just need to know how it all ends. Some how I just know that it's not ....and they lived happily after ever after. I received an ARC is exchange for my honest review.

Words fail me! Absolutely riveting story, addictive, heart wrenching and satisfying.just preordained Dollars book 2 and I can not wait to delve into the next part of Tasmin/Pimlico journey. THANK YOU Pepper . ...this book was beyond my expectations but I never doubted for one moment that you would pull this craziness out of the spectacular brain!

I seriously do not know where to go with this review. I loved the book. I loved that it is not full of fluff and sweetness. It is raw, gritty, brutal and so very dark. It reached into the depth of depravity and your heart will bleed out for Pim. I just want to grab her out of her dark world and hold her close. I want to take Master A and do some serious damage. Strength runs through Pim, strength I know I would not have if living in her situation. 2 years of the worst conditions you could ever dream up…go deeper because it’s darker than than. The hero is no a hero and I am curious to see what hell Pim is dropped into next. Surely it couldn’t be worse….or could it? There is no knight in shining armor, there is no HEA, at least not yet…there is no fun and flirty. This is death..this is the life of a sold young lady. This takes you out of your safe little box and will make you hold your daughters closer and make sure they know the darkness that lives in this world. If you have triggers heed the warning. I was gripped in these pages and I can’t wait for the next book!

4.5 stars--PENNIES is the first installment in Pepper Winters’s contemporary, adult DOLLAR dark, romance series focusing on Tasmin Blythe (aka Pim), and billionaire Elder Prest. WARNING: PENNIES is a dark romance with scenes of graphic and implied violence, rape, sexual abuse and torture. PENNIES and the Dollar series may not suitable for everyone ; there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers. Told from dual first person perspectives (Tasmin and Elder) PENNIES focuses on the murder, abduction and enslavement of a young eighteen year old girl named Tasmin Bythe who has been sold to a Norwegian business man – a sadistic, sexually and physically abusive monster-by an unknown source. Two years of abuse, rape and torture at the hands of Alrik Asbjorn (aka Master A) and several of his friends has found our story line heroine selectively mute and gradually falling into a darkness from where they may be no return. Enter Elder Prest, a man submerged into the illegal world of arms dealing, power and control-a man known to be a killer and a thief- who would be both Tasmin’s savior and downfall. What ensues is the struggle for Tasmin to remain quiet in the face of her potential freedom when to speak could mean the end of her life-an end she welcomes in more ways than one. PENNIES is a story revealed in present time and through written memories of a girl who has, for all intents and purposes, died and been resurrected as Pim. Her thoughts are poured into a ‘diary’ of sorts-she writes to no one, and no one listens-a reminder of who she was and what she has now become. The premise is dark, controversial and tragic. The abuse is humiliating, painful and life-threatening; the heroine borders on the abyss between life and death on more than one occasion. To disobey means reprimand; a reprimand means pain, blood and broken bones. Pepper Winters has reached into the inky darkness for her latest story. There are moments of graphic violence, disturbing implications, emotional, physical and sexual abuse. The imagery is dark and alarming; the violence is intense and extreme; the pain is heartbreaking and tearful. PENNIES is a complex and impassioned novel of suffering; an all consuming tale about betrayal, revenge and survival; a powerful and violent story of one woman whose freedom was stolen for a million and a half pounds. Give me a ‘penny’ for your thoughts!

"FREEDOM. Such a modest word. It carried very little importance for those who had it. But for those who didn't, it was the most precious, prized, and promised hope of all." "Something happened to me. I was no longer on the same path. I'd stepped off it. No, I'd been dragged off it. By this man. This sinful angel who'd somehow become my defender and liberator all in one. I didn't know him. But I wanted to. He'd saved my life by giving me a second of happiness. I wanted him to remain in my life. But I knew that wasn't possible." Speechless...that is me at this moment. Blown away...absolutely. I am a total loss for words as mind is trying to comprehend everything that I've just read. You think you've seen dark from Pepper before, but I am here to tell you, you haven't seen dark like this..... Pennies is unlike anything I've read. Once again, Pepper Winters has taken me out of my comfort zone and provided with an unforgettable story. Pennies is DARK. Pennies is so dark that it comes with its own warning label--please, please heed the warning! This book is shocking. It is for a lack of a better word, messed up. It will have you all tied up in knots. Your eyes will be glued to the pages as you go along on this journey with Pim. The desperation, pain and hopelessness that surround her is so intense, you will feel as though you are experiencing her story right along with her. Pennies is crazy. It will take you on such a mind blowing ride. You can't help but burn through the pages to see what will happen next. The things that Pim has experienced....No one should have to experience that. I wanted to cry for Pim soooo many times. Her story is so raw and intense. It will captivate you, shock you and totally consume you. And no matter how dark and intense things may get, you can't stop reading. You can't make yourself putting this book down. You have to know how things will turn out. There are so many twists and turns. So many intense and uncertain moments. So many moments where you need to take a break from everything. But, once again, you can't. You have to have answers and I still have so many questions. I want to know who Elder really is. What is his true agenda? Can he be trusted? All I can say is well done, Pepper. Well Done! This book had me tied up in knots the entire time. And just when you think your mind can't take anymore, you come to the ending...All I'm going to say is that this ending is going to have you begging for more and waiting impatiently for the next installment. I think this series is off to a dark and fantastic start. I can not wait to see what else Pepper has up her sleeve and lurking around the next corner.
