    more from this reviewer

    Well written, only predictable sometimes..

i enjoyed this book! there were so many characters it was sometimes hard to remember which couple was which, and how they were linked to the other couples.. and which couple had which kids. i appreciated the growth that the two main women showed towards the end... didnt appreciate they behaved like stereotypical (b)itchy black women... overall - good read, only predictable sometimes, funny, too!

    Touching & Heartwarming . . . .

I was blessed to be able to read a copy of People Next Door, I found the characters to be warm & funny and surprisingly familiar. I laughed and cried all at the same time. I strongly recommend this book if you still believe in the sanctity of family and true love. My hat is off to the author of this novel, Congrats. Thank you!

It would be nice to be able to choose your neighbors!

Bettye Griffin has written a very intriguiing story, that noone else has written and that is absolutely wonderful. This story shows much creativity and great writing skills, and is sure to thrill her dedicated fans and solidify new fans to follow. If you have read her other titles, this one is nothing like the rest, with the exception of being in good taste and enjoyable, reading. Meet the Canfields and the Betacourt's. Lisa and Darrell Canfield have a dream home in the making, and they have taken extreme care in their selection. Hard work does pay off. Suzanne and Brad Betancourt have a dream home that most actually do dream about. Each character has their own story and I definitely can see a sequel or a series of the Canfields and Betancourt's. Flo and Ernie are the 'Jones' or at least they want to be and they go to extremes, they are definitely someone you wish didn't live in your neighborhood. Ma Canfield is a levelheaded and mature honest matriarch and I really liked her in this story. Paula, oh my Paula is a trip and Devon's reaction to her is something that she should have expected. Brad Betancourt, a typical self absorbed man. Suzanne, a clean up woman (Yuck I really don't like her). I can't expound on Suzanne, read the book and you will understand. As these families coexist in the same neighborhood, you find out how the other half lives and if you ever wondered how your life could have been or should have been you get a chance to live it through these families. Money doesn't build character. Adults see life one way, but children see it another way and you have to read this story to understand that your neighbor may not really be that bad. (I apologize for this review, if it doesn't give you enough insight into the story, but trust me on this one... BUY the book, and Read the book, you will not be disappointed). If I say too much, I will give it away and I don't want to do that.

    Moving on up?

Lisa and her 2nd husband Darrell have finally found the perfect piece of property on which to build their dream house. What should have been a happy venture in their relationship, turns into drama central when they learn that Lisa's ex-husband Brad, and his beautiful new wife Suzanne, have purchased the house next door. What follows is an emotional story of how the two families adapt to their plight amid tensions from stepchildren, in-laws and exes. If that is not enough, around the corner live Flo and Ernie, the two nosiest people in the neighborhood who are driven to find out all there is to know about the two families. Bettye Griffin has written a wonderful and engaging tale that leaves the reader on edge until the very last page. The characters are very dynamic and the story line is interesting. This is the first novel by this author that I have read but it will certainly not be the last.
