    A Great Start-Up Guide

I often refer to it as Please Understand Me Lite, this book has all the essential ideas of Keirsey's theory without confusing those of us who aren't psychologically inclined. Also a great introductory reader to use as a jumping off point in temperament study.

    Modern and Accurate

Montgomery focusies on a MATRIX OF TEMPERAMENT, saying that people either make a habit of DOING WHAT¿S RIGHT or DOING WHAT WORKS. Further, he says, people either make a habit of SAYING WHAT¿S ACTUAL or SAYING WHAT¿S POSSIBLE. This focus on the basic dimensions of temperament enables the reader to understand the numerous and bewildering differences in people¿s habits of working, mating, and parenting. Montgomery does something else for the reader, which is to give CURRENT EXAMLPLES of the doings and sayings of all sorts of noted individuals in many walks of life, and in the new millennium to boot. Also he is accurate and eloquent in depicting mating of differing temperaments, and the parenting by differing temperaments of children of differing temperaments. Very modern, very accurate. Hurray for Montgomery!

Great guide to help you understand yourself and others

Stephen Montgomery's new book is a great introduction to David Keirsey's complex temperment theory. His approach is both fun and informative. You take a short test to determine your personality type (rational, idealist, guardian, or artisan)and then you can learn all about how your temperment type and the other types behave in different areas of their lives, such as relationships and career. The really fun part is Montgomery's use of characters from popular novels and films to illustrate the different types - I particularly liked the Harry Potter references. He discusses how the different temperments interact with each other and also has some career suggestions for each type. One of the important points in the book is that each personality type has their own unique talents and ways of approaching life, and it's a losing battle to try to change others to fit your blueprint. Try the test out on your friends and family, it's fun and will change the way you look at others and yourself. Highly recommended!

    Know yourself!

Know yourself! Reviewer: Dr. Brian Alman from San Diego, CA USA I love this book! It's a practical guide to taking charge of your personality and enjoying yourself on an entirely new level. Dr. Montgomery takes you on a journey into your personality type. It's a guide to recognizing your potentials and it starts happening in the first 10 pages!

A briefcase book guide to temperament

At last comes an ever welcome new book on temperament and type! This easy to read guide is rooted deep in Keirsey's many years of work but without long descriptions. This is a bite sized yet thorough version that brings to life the different temperaments through TV and screen characters and stars. This makes it ideal to get a quick mental picture of the temperaments. Dr Stephen Montgomery fills the book with lots of dot point information in various categories such as mating, children, and careers so that there is plenty of application material here to enjoy. All in all, an enjoyable book that could have been visually better with a few more pictures, but that is a minor point. I recommend it, as it adds another interesting perspective to a growing and interesting topic.
