Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jillian Kobelin
Come along for Peppa Pig’s idea of a perfect day! This book is based on the TV show “Peppa Pig,” featuring the charming and unique piglet and her family and friends. The first page opens to a removable pop-up of Peppa’s family car, with her family heading out to enjoy the sunny day. Next, the family stops for a nice picnic with an abundance of delicious food. When they get home, Peppa and her brother, George, play hide and seek with friends. Lastly, Grandpa Pig comes by with his big boat, another removable pop-up figure. The last page unfolds to display a 3x2 square play mat of Peppa’s town, with reusable stickers and pop-out characters included. Young readers can interact with this book by playing with the stickers, characters, car and boat on the play mat. This format encourages reading skills as well as the creativity and imagination of free-play. The only downsides to this book are the limited text in storytelling based on the recommended age and the likelihood that the removable parts will be lost or damaged. Reviewer: Jillian Kobelin; Ages 3 to 7.

Two outings and a game of hide-and-seek in between add up to a perfect day for Peppa and friends in this four-spread TV-series spinoff. First Peppa and her bubble-gum–pink family ride to the park ("Vroom!" says little George) for a healthy picnic packed by Daddy Pig. Then it's home for playtime with Danny Dog and Suzy Sheep, until Grandpa Pig arrives with a boat big enough for all ("Ship ahoy!"). Children can embellish this stripped-down plotline on the foldout playscape attached to the back cover. All of the figures in the flat, very simple illustrations also come as punch-outs on a loose sheet, and there are corresponding slots in the detachable pop-up car and boat. Fans of the British series, which runs on Nick Jr. in the United States, may experience several moments of pleasure before the card-stock vehicles are crushed. More kit than story, with some assembly required. (sticker sheet) (Pop-up/picture book. 3-4)
