Overview

Humans and half-bloods agree-Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a series fit for heroes! Relive the adventure from the beginning with this boxed set of the first three books with glorious new cover art by John Rocco.

The Lightning Thief
Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can't seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. When his mom tells him the truth about where he came from, she takes him to the one place he'll be safe-Camp Half-Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island). There, Percy learns that the father he never knew is actually Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon Percy finds himself caught up in a mystery that could lead to disastrous consequences. Together with his friends-a satyr and other the demigod daughter of Athena-Percy sets out on a quest to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.

The Sea of Monsters
After a summer spent trying to prevent a catastrophic war among the Greek gods, Percy Jackson finds his seventh-grade school year unnervingly calm. But things don't stay quiet for long. Percy soon discovers there is trouble at Camp Half-Blood: the magical borders which protect Half-Blood Hill have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and the only safe haven for demigods is on the verge of being overrun by mythological monsters. To save the camp, Percy needs the help of his best friend, Grover, who has been taken prisoner by the Cyclops Polyphemus on an island somewhere in the Sea of Monsters-the dangerous waters Greek heroes have sailed for millennia-only today, the Sea of Monsters goes by a new nameL: the Bermuda Triangle. Now Percy and his friends must retrieve the Golden Fleece from the Island of the Cyclopes by the end of the summer or Camp Half-Blood will be destroyed. But first, Percy will learn a stunning new secret about his family-one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon's son is an honor or simply a cruel joke...

The Titan's Curse
When Percy Jackson receives a distress call from his friend Grover, he immediately prepares for battle. He knows he'll need his powerful demigod allies, Annabeth and Thalia, at his side; his trusty broze sword Riptide; and... a ride from his mom. The demigods race to the rescue, to find that Grover has made an important discovery: two new powerful half-bloods whose parentage is unknown. But that's not all that awaits them. The Titan lord, Kronos, has set up his most devious trap yet, and the young heroes have unwittingly fallen prey. Hilarious and action-packed, this third adventure in the series finds Percy faced with his most dangerous challenge so far: the chilling prophecy of the Titan's curse.

Meet the Author

Rick Riordan

Rick Riordan (www.rickriordan.com) is the author of the # 1 New York Times best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, as well as the #1 best-selling The Heroes of Olympus series, and The Kane Chronicles series. His previous novels for adults include the hugely popular Tres Navarre series, winner of the top three awards in the mystery genre. He lives in Boston, Massachusetts with his wife and two sons.

Biography

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a terrific YA series by former middle school teacher and mystery writer Rick Riordan that revamps Greek mythology in a fun, fresh way kids find enthralling. A trouble-prone teen with attention deficit disorder and dyslexia, Percy is the half-blood son of Poseidon, one of 12 Olympian gods making mischief right here in 21st-century America. Praised by critics, librarians, and teachers, the Percy Jackson books have been honored with numerous awards and appear consistently on The New York Times bestseller list.

The series grew out of a sequence of bedtime stories Riordan invented for his son Haley -- who, at eight, had just been diagnosed with learning disabilities. Although Haley was having trouble in school, he loved the Greek myths and asked his dad to tell him some stories about the gods and heroes. Riordan ran through the standards from mythology, then began to invent new tales featuring some of the same characters and introducing a brave boy hero enough like Haley to make things interesting!

Haley begged his father to write the stories down, and in 2005, The Lightning Thief was published to excellent reviews. It was an instant hit with preteens, who loved the concept of a kid much like themselves -- i.e., embroiled in the everyday problems of school, family, and relationships -- embarking on heroic quests, soothing vengeful gods, and battling monsters.

In addition to Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Riordan also writes books for adults, most notably a series of high-octane Tex-Mex thrillers featuring private investigator Jackson "Tres" Navarre, a complicated loner with an offbeat pedigree. (Tres -- pronounced "Trace" -- is a tai chi master with a Ph.D. in medieval literature who turns to detective work when he is unable to find a teaching job!) The first novel in the series, 1997's Big Red Tequila, scooped the Anthony and Shamus Awards, two of the three most prestigious prizes for Mystery & Crime fiction. Riordan completed the trifecta when his sequel, The Widower's Two-Step, won the coveted Edgar Award in 1999.

Between the two series, Riordan remains incredibly busy. For several years, he balanced writing with teaching English to middle school students. Reluctantly, he has left teaching (a career he thoroughly enjoyed) in order to write full-time, but he still harbors hopes that someday he'll return to the classroom. Meanwhile, he makes frequent visits to schools and enjoys meeting young readers on his book tours.

    Not Just For Kids! !

I heard about this story and how amazing it was but I was hesitant to pick it up because of the age range. Most of the reviewers say from 10-13. While of coarse it wasn't a challenging read I felt the language and writing of the book did not feel overtly simple or in any way distracting, in fact, the writing was better than a lot of novels I've read with a higher age range! So I just wanted to let people know the story defies age! Fascinating read! The story is completely enthralling, suspenseful and humorous to boot! One of my favorites!

    Fun books!

I got these books for my 9-year old. I always read books before she does, just to be sure they're appropriate and got sucked in to the story. While the author's writing style isn't exactly what I would normally read, I think the books are perfect for younger children.

The story is fun and educational (if you're interested in Greek Mythology) - just a fun series!

    Great Series!

I bought this set for my son for Christmas as he asked for them by name. For a child that gives us trouble because he doesn't want to waste his time reading when he could be playing computer/Wii/iPod games he LOVES this series. He read all three within the first month of getting them. Bonus: These books are on his school's Accelerated Reader list for which he gets graded on and can earn extra credit. It's a win-win situation! He will be very sad when he completes the series.

    Great Series

Twelve year old Percy Jackson is about to get kicked out of yet another boarding school. The difference this time, is that he's just vaporized his pre-algebra teacher but nobody, except his odd friend Grover, seem to know anything about it. But Percy's own mother knows this is just the beginning. She sends Percy to Camp Halfblood, and the journey isn't an easy one. Percy learns he is a demigod--the son of a Greek God and a mortal woman--and when Zues' lightning bolt is stolen, young Percy is the prime suspect.

This book surprised me. Percy is a fun character and I loved the easy mix of mythology and the modern world. Everything fit seamlessly, from his ADHD and dyslexia, to "Crusty", the mattress salesman. And I thought the description of the gods fit perfectly! It had me laughing and rooting for Percy, Grover and Annabeth throughout the entire book.

I don't read a lot of mid-grade novels. but I loved this one. And the movie looks great!

    Great set for Christmas gift

If you like fiction and basically a story about a hero this would be great for you. I know I loved it. There is also a movie being released soon entitled the same; so you can read it with a child and then go watch the movie.

    Charming and captivating

If you have any love for the Harry Potter series, you'll definitely enjoy this series. It parallels, just instead dealing with the Gods instead of magic. Though I admit I didn't finish each book in only one sitting like some Harry Potter books, it didn't take me much longer. Safe for children while still enjoyable for adults.

    This is a great series!

We started out by buying the first one for our daughter and she loved it so much that she asked her father to read it, then I read it. We have read the whole series except for the last one, of which we are waiting for it to come out in paperback. We bought the boxed set as a gift for my daughter's friend. This series is totally enthralling! Could not put the book down. The end of each chapter made you want to continue to the next chapter and so on. Highly recommend!!!

Bought for my son - I finished the series before him

We picked the Lightning Thief up at the beginning of the summer for my son. Thought it would be a good series to start while he waits for the next Sisters Grimm book. I read the first page and was also hooked. He is now on book 4 and I actually finished the series before him!

The writing is quick paced, funny and full of adventure. I love learning about the Greek mythology. You are learning without even knowing it with these engaging stories. I didn't realize how much I was picking up until I heard a program on mythology and found out how many stories were familiar from the Percy books.

Looking forward to the movie next spring!

After harry Potter we have Percy Jackson

If you read all Harry Potter books and still linger for something to read, you should read Percy Jackson. At first it looks pretty similar to Harry Potter, but once you get to the 2nd book you will find that he forms his own identity and keeps you longing to know more.
If you like quests and myths, this is a great light book that will keep you interested.

An incredible journey into Greek mythology

I am major when it comes to Greek mythology. So far, I am two books in the series and getting ready for "The Titan's Curse". I am diagnosed with ADHD, Riordan saying that having either ADHD or dyslexia means that I might be a demigod, makes your imagination wider and more bigger.
