    highly recommended!

I bought this book to improve my SAT score based on other reviews. The mind games and the online test analysis were definitely worthwhile. It does offer a different approach, emphasizing critical thinking. I highly recommend it.

INNOVATIVE, HIGHLY READABLE AND IMMEDIATELY USER-FRIENDLY TEXT

Math purists will hate PERFECT 800 SAT MATH. It is too nontraditional-too simple. However, its deceptive simplicity mirrors the paradoxical notion of simplicity put forth by the noted French author, philosopher and major figure of the Enlightenment, Voltaire: One always begins with the simple, then comes the complex, and by superior enlightenment one often reverts in the end to the simple. Such is the course of human intelligence. This innovative text also reflects the author's decade of masterfully teaching SAT math at MAC Testing & Consulting, LLC in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, not just to truly math gifted students but additionally to those who, with his able assistance, discover to their delight that they, too, have a latent gift for and profound love of mathematics.
PERFECT 800 SAT MATH provides useful test preparation approaches. It includes different techniques, which can be used alternatively and in various combinations by students. This is valuable information that, for whatever reason, College Board does not provide. Additionally, the book's unexpected down-to-earth conversational tone is as fresh and as clear as is its stated philosophy and approach, viz., to know, to understand and to apply one's math skills on the SAT, as well as in a variety of real-life situations. Students will also benefit from Dr. Celenti's easy-to-grasp yet cogent analogies, e.g., " . . . taking an SAT test, is, in many ways, analogous to running a marathon" (page 11), and . . . Like in sports, accept the challenge and the results will award for that (not to mention getting an early start on preparation for the "ultimate" test: the SAT) . . ." (page 23). The publisher, Prufrock Press Inc., is to be equally commended for crafting such a highly readable and immediately user-friendly text. Absent from PERFECT 800 SAT MATH are the typical unappealing jammed pages, which often detract from even the finest work.
Rather, PERFECT 800 SAT MATH's pages are open and designed, with intention, to facilitate the reader's mastery and application of each discrete math point presented. This is most notable in "Part II: Specific Math Topics, Tips for Problem-Solving, and Simple Problems." I was especially glad to see that Dan included his intriguing mind games and their respective solutions in Chapters 10 and 11. His students at MAC always relish his ubiquitous brainteasers. However, I would have liked to have seen the following: 1) a change in the names of both Chapter 10 and 11 from "Mind Games" and "Solutions to Mind Games" respectively to "Logic Games" and "Solutions to Logic Games" because the term "mind games" is often used pejoratively. 2) more emphasis in Chapter 4: Algebra that includes more examples and problems on functions. 3) a chapter on Number Sense will be a great enhancement to this inspiring book. This chapter can cover divisibility rules, adding/multiplying odd/even and positive/negative numbers. 4) several more pages addressing those SAT math problems that deal with statistics and 5) a considerably more extensive Reference Section than one lone College Board 2007 citation. (The next edition of this book would benefit from an expanded Reference Section, one that lists other immediately useful, appropriate and engaging resources, such as select SAT math computer software, effective math DVDs, and fresh worry and anxiety reduction techniques, and the like.)

    Loved it :]

This book will change the way you look at math! No longer is math just numbers and symbols, it's another language which you can master. SAT math is intimidating, but Dr. Dan breaks it down so that you can understand the reasoning behind the problem and get the perfect score. Dr. Dan's method of looking at math as something more than a series of numbers increased my SAT math score by over 150 points!

I can't recommend this book highly enough.

    A Perfect 800? Yeah, that's what you'll get...

All you need to know about this book is written in large, bold letters across the cover.

    Perfect 800.

If you read through and apply the principles outlined in this well thought-out book by Dr. Dan Celenti, you will get it.

I first started working with Dr. Celenti in 2003, while researching colleges and beginning preparations to take the SAT. The exam baffled me at first, and my math score or practice exams averaged in the low 600 range. A friend of mine introduced me to Dr. Celenti, and over the following weeks he guided me, step-by-step through the process of tackling the math section of the SAT -- not by memorizing formula after formula, but by understand WHY and HOW to solve the problems offered on the test, and then boiling it down to a few simple principles. Within weeks, my test scores shot up, and in mid 2004 I achieved a perfect 800 on the SAT.

A few short months later, I received acceptance letter from Harvard and MIT, among other colleges.

The SAT is not an impossible test -- it's written by authors just as lazy as you and me -- if not more so. So it stands to reason that there's a relatively finite number of concepts that are covered by the exam. Dr. Celenti teaches the WHY and HOW behind the exam, and will have you in perfect score territory in no time at all.

    I highly recommend this book.

Comprehensive Study Tool - Highly Recommended!

Dan Celenti delivers a comprehensive study program that develops mathematical expertise while strengthening critical thinking skills that are essential for success on the SAT. Rather than focusing on repitition, this book encourages its readers to approach problems by thinking critically and fosters a far greater level of comprehension and retention than any other study tool that I have used. Now a student at Georgetown University, though far removed from my days of studying for the SAT, the skill set that I acquired through following Celenti's method continues to impact the way that I approach college-level math. The study techniques outlined in this book helped me greatly improve my Math SAT score, and I highly recommend Perfect 800: SAT Math for any high schooler preparing to take the SAT.

    An indispensable tool!

I couldn't simply memorize HOW to solve a problem. Dr. Dan really understood that I needed to know WHY. After mastering concepts Dr. Dan's way, I never again had to suffer through mindless hours of practice tests and the standard test preparation. Thanks Dr. Dan!

Excellent strategies for the Math SAT

Dr. Celenti's strategies for attacking the math portion of the SAT helped me to achieve a high score (over 750) when I took the test. I highly recommend that top students use this book as a tool as they prepare. You will learn a unique and effective approach that is tailored to the needs of high performers.

A good book with the right approach

I have been teaching maths from high school level and up for many years and know how important it is for students to be taught it in a manner that is based on building analytic skills. Asking students to learn things by heart, teaching math concepts in an abstract way, is a recipe for failure. This is why I like the approach in this book. I also think that the inclusion of realistic test simulations is an excellent idea.

    Most useful!

This is the best book on SAT Math I've seen so far!

I find Dr. Celenti's philosophy of aiming at perfect scores in math extremely appropriate for students applying to Ivy League schools, or who would like to maximize their chances of getting a merit scholarship at good schools.

A friend of mine I was helping with the SAT Math was able to get this book, and showed it to me. I wish I had it before I was preparing for this exam. I was accepted by Harvard, UPenn, and MIT but still this book would have saved me a lot of work, grief, and sleepless nights.
