Overview

Dana Mayo is a whiz at solving puzzles-but only the kind that appear in the daily newspaper. When it comes to matters of the heart, she doesn't have a clue.

After a disastrous attempt to track down the former love of her life, Dana determines to take fate into her own hands and find a new Mr. Right- preferably one who's not already married. Soon she's spending time with Hank, a hunky contractor who is restoring a neighborhood brownstone to its former glory. Handsome and loyal, he's almost too good to be true-but she just can't shake the feeling he's hiding something. Enter Billy, a sexy brainiac who shares her passion for crosswords. He would be perfect, too-if she weren't old enough to be his aunt.

With crises looming on all fronts, Dana's wits are about to be put to the ultimate test. Before she loses it all, she'll have to figure out what she really wants-a puzzle that's anything but black-and-white.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Goss' charming debut follows Dana Mayo, a talented artist and crossword puzzle wiz, as she looks for love, finds too much, and suddenly has to choose. She has spent most of her adult life single in New York City, measuring her few partners by the lost love of her early twenties, Ray Devine, an older married man with whom she had an affair over two decades ago. When she attempts to track him down, she's told that he's died. She decides this is a sign to move on, and soon thereafter she meets Hank, a charismatic master electrician with a pet pig named Dinner. While Hank raises some red flags regarding his honesty, he is good-looking and sweet. However, a few weeks into their relationship, Dana meets Billy, a gorgeous guy who shares her passion for crosswords (in fact, he's a "constructor" of the puzzles for the New York Times), but happens to be nearly 20 years younger than she. Matters get further complicated when she discovers that Ray is not dead, and finally wants to see her again. Dana soon finds herself caught in the crosshairs of three good men, and must make a choice that will change her life. With plenty of laughs along the way, readers will delight in Dana's candid quest for love. (Mar.)

    Perfect read! Buy it immediately!

I loved this book! This would feel like a guilty pleasure if it weren't such a smartly written book. I couldn't put it down. Goss is hilarious and of course, the crossword found at the end is an extra bonus.

This is a terrific novel -
Dana, the main character, is a funny, clever woman who hasn't had the easiest time with relationships. Busy with her artwork and main obsession, crossword puzzles, she doesn't expect to fall in love, especially not with two men at the same time, one very young and the other age appropriate, both of them charming and handsome. I fell in love with all of them! Dana is a lot of fun to spend time with - I found myself laughing out loud on the #2 subway and practically missed my stop! All the other characters are zany and interesting, and there are endless little mysteries that keep you reading. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

This book is terrible. I couldn't finish it. The main character, Dana Mayo, is too full of herself. I just didn't care what happened to her.
