Overview

Katarina Bishop and W.W. Hale the fifth were born to lead completely different lives: Kat comes from a long, proud line of loveable criminal masterminds, while Hale is the scion of one of the most seemingly perfect dynasties in the world. If their families have one thing in common, it's that they both know how to stay under the radar while getting-or stealing-whatever they want.

No matter the risk, the Bishops can always be counted on, but in Hale's family, all bets are off when money is on the line. When Hale unexpectedly inherits his grandmother's billion dollar corporation, he quickly learns that there's no place for Kat and their old heists in his new role. But Kat won't let him go that easily, especially after she gets tipped off that his grandmother's will might have been altered in an elaborate con to steal the company's fortune. So instead of being the heir-this time, Hale might be the mark.

Forced to keep a level head as she and her crew fight for one of their own, Kat comes up with an ambitious and far-reaching plan that only the Bishop family would dare attempt. To pull it off, Kat is prepared to do the impossible, but first, she has to decide if she's willing to save her boyfriend's company if it means losing the boy.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Katrina Bishop and W.W. Hale the fifth seem to occupy opposite sides of the universe: Teenager Bishop is the youngest in a dynasty of imaginative criminals; her well-heeled, 16-year-old boyfriend belongs to a greedy billionaire family. That apparent incompatibility, however, serves as the spur for Ally Carter's suspenseful Heist Society series, of which Perfect Scoundrels is the third solid installment. (P.S. Teen readers might recognize Carter as the author of the popular Gallagher Girl series.)

From the Publisher
The stakes are not only higher but personal in this third Heist Society novel. Teen criminal mastermind Katarina Bishop gathers her fellow con artists to help one of their own, W. W. Hale the Fifth, when Hale's wealthy tycoon grandmother dies suddenly-and mysteriously-leaving control of her billion-dollar corporation to underage Hale and the family's greedy trustee lawyer. This time Kat's not after cursed jewels or stolen paintings but the original will-even if it means losing Hale in the process. While jet-setting around the globe, scheming elaborate break-ins, and even pulling off a "Basil E. Frankweiler" maneuver in a high-security London museum, Kat must keep her feelings for Hale in check. Can she trust her usually steadfast partner? Further complicating this cinematic caper is the meeting of Kat's under-the-radar relatives and Hale's socialite family. With razor-sharp dialogue, twists and tight squeezes galore, and one quick-thinking heroine, Carter doesn't miss a step as she continues to entertain her numerous fans.- Angela Leeper—Booklist Online
Children's Literature - Keri Collins Lewis
W.W. Hale the Fifth lives a thrilling double life. As the heir to a billion-dollar family-owned corporation, he enjoys all the luxuries money can buy. As the boyfriend of Katarina Bishop, member of a family of notorious criminal geniuses, he enjoys all of the excitement the next big heist can afford. When Hale's grandmother, Hazel, dies and leaves him in charge of the family business, he finally feels valued by his family and he is willing to fully accept his place in their world. Then Kat is tipped off by the ever-loyal butler Marcus that Hazel's will may be a fake. Determined to save her boyfriend's corporation even if it means losing him, Kat sets out to outwit the mastermind behind a devious plot involving theft and murder. The third novel in Carter's "Heist Society" series takes readers all over the world in trademark fashion: high stakes, high style, and high adrenaline. In this cleverly plotted yet tender story, Kat does more than sleuth out the mystery of Hazel's final wishes. She investigates the nature of family and pursues justice with the full force of her clan's power, even though she knows the outcome may hurt them. Series fans will adore the introduction of new, loveable characters, such as Silas Foster, brilliant inventor and Hazel's poker buddy. The usual members of Kat's merry band of teenage thieves are on hand to help pull off an incredibly complex con. Carter ramps up the fun factor with a few other family members showing up for their colorful cameos, including a naked Uncle Felix. With an over-the-top ending, this may be Carter's best book yet. Ally Carter has done it again! I'll continue to admit that as a Gallagher Girls reader I was skeptical about jumping into a totally different series from Ally, and I am so glad today that I did! Heist Society is quickly becoming my #1 favorite series and I'm looking forward to more of Kat & Co. in the future.

Please note: Yes I realize that there is not yet a Nook version of this book available but PLEASE people, DO NOT down rate this book because of that!!! That is wrong and insensitive, this book deserves 5 stars, rather in digital or hard copy.

    Suspense, Adventure, Humor..... and Hale!

Perfect Scoundrels is a wonderful and worthy installment in the Heist Society series. I had very high expectations for this book and they were all met. Kat and Hale are two of my favorite characters of all time. They are both loyal and strong. They are also talented individuals who work with their family. Hale and the others also have wonderful humor. The story line is captivating and immediately hooked me.

I have read all of Ally Carters YA books and this one is at the top. I liked that this books scenario forced the characters to really come together as a family and to think outside the box (even more than usual :). I would recommend this book and series to anyone but especially lovers of international intrigue and suspense. A big encore to Ally Carter!

The third book, Perfect Scoundrels, might just be the best of the Heist Society books. I'm not so sure if this is the last, because of it's open ending, but I don't think I'd mind reading another book about those amazing characters.  In Perfect Scoundrels, we start off with the tragic death of Hale's grandmother, Hazel. During the reading of the will, it turns out that Hale has inherited his grandmother's company, but with a trustee, who is Garrett. Garrett is the family's lawyer, and he will be his trustee until Hale turns twenty-five. The interesting part is that this time, the problem is within the family itself. There is something fishy about the will, and that's when they realize that someone has switched the real will with a fake, to benefit themselves for a reason. It was interesting that for once, they had to do a con for the family, and not for someone outside their little circle.
I think I really enjoyed the con itself, and how everything played out. It was definitely action packed, and the characters were just SO awesome. In this book, we kind of get to know more about both of their families. It felt nice to kind of get a peak at their personal lives, and not just their thief-lives. As usual, it was fun reading about the team working together again. In Perfect Scoundrels, Hale and Kat's relationship goes through a bit of a rough patch, and I liked how Ally Carter spiced it up a bit. There were some crazy shocking events in the book that really surprised me, but again, I still enjoyed it very much.
Overall, Perfect Scoundrels was a fantastic read that was action packed to the end. Perfect Scoundrels had me hooked, and I never wanted to stop reading! I know a lot of people who didn't enjoy Uncommon Criminals, but I am sure that this one won't disappoint! If you haven't started the Heist Society series, I highly recommend it as well! Perfect Scoundrels got me laughing, my heart racing, and me smiling! If this is the final book, I don't think I'd be that upset, but if there is another book, then I am excited to see what happens next with Kat and Hale!
