He was so small that his mother didn't know he was there. The other piglets were always pushing and shoving, squealing greedily for food, or rolling around in the mud.
But the tiny pig was gentle, quiet, and never greedy, and he always kept clean. While the other piglets played he would lie under his favorite tree wishing for wings to carry him into the sky.
* * *
One day he heard a great shriek. A large sow had slipped on the road. The little pig crawled under the fence and ran to help her.
He wedged some pebbles and twigs under her, and with great effort finally helped her to her feet.
The sow was very grateful and offered the little pig a wish — "anything at all," she said.
"I want wings," he answered.
The sow nodded and continued on her way. Almost at once wings began to grow on the little pig.
He was thrilled. His wings worked! He flew around all day.
At night he returned to the pigpen. When the other pigs saw his wings they pushed him out. "Go sleep with the birds," they said.
He tried that, but the birds wouldn't let him stay either.
On and on he flew towards a city.

Im 11 and Ive read more books than most adults have read in thire life time. This is among one of the best books i have ever read, picture, chapter, whatever.Its just a great book, even if it has been missing the first page since i was like born.
I'm about to be a first time mom at the age of 24.Last week when I was decorating the babys room I found myself trying to think of books I think she could get some positive thinking from.Ones that ment somthing to me growing up.I thought of alot, but none seemed to come close to the very first book I ever bought from my first school bookfair ! I picked perfect the pig out on my own and read it over and over again.I mentioned it to my mom,and to my delight she knew how much I loved my book.She had saved it in my babybook.So not only can I have the satifaction of reading it to my little girl, I also get to read my very own copy to her. I know she will love it as much as I did, And still do !!!
Years before I became a parent, and then eventually a teacher, I held this book close to my heart. After the first reading, I knew this story about a flying pig would always be one of my favorites. My home and classroom library is now vast, but I still come back to this 'classic' time and time again when my children or I need a bit of a spiritual 'lift'. You can't go wrong with a story about unconditional love and acceptance! Buy this adorable book and share it with those you love.
I first encountered this book as a young child. My sister and I used to beg to have it read to us at all times of the day, and twice at night. It was an absolute joy to see it come to life on Reading Rainbow in its vibrant storytelling. The copy that my sister and I had is long gone, and I have been trying to find another copy for years. I was thrilled to walk into Barnes and Noble and find out that it is still in print and still available. My daughter is eleven years old, and it's time for her to know the brilliant wonder of unconditional love, and the joy of self acceptance. Perfect The Pig is truly the Perfect story!
