Overview

Bad luck is simply Karis Bennett’s reality.

So when her husband confesses the deception that would lead to his untimely death, she takes that crap nugget square in the face, and it’s reeked ever since.

That was until Michael Finn slides his sexy card into her crappy hand on one of the worst nights of her life, no less. But this time, it’s not only bad luck, but also bad timing that nearly destroys her chance at happiness.
Fortunately, the most relentless man she’s ever met is more than willing to fight for the both of them.

Appearing at the most inopportune times, Michael is her light amongst darkness. Passion amongst indifference. Perfection amongst misfortune. He gives her something she’s never had: a life worth living.

Loved how this author packs so much into this story. My reaction by the end of the first chapter was "Wow!" The set-up is the emotional turmoil the heroine feels, knowing that her husband is at death's door, because he didn't disclose his cancer until too late, and in the first 23 pages the story touches on long term relationships, caretaker's burnout, stages of grieving, fidelity, and the give and take of relationships, from the first spark of interest, cheesy pickup lines, and dealing with an obnoxious drunk, to the role of a best friend, learning when to push and when to let go, and how to listen, so that silence and actions speak louder than words. Where the story takes you from there is worth reading and rereading. Definitely an author on my watch list.

Really enjoyed this story. The writing was well-crafted, the plot refreshingly new. Karis cracked me up often, and her best friend, Eve, was funny as hell. Michael...well, it doesn't get better than him. He's sexy, dominant, persistent, and hopelessly devoted to their relationship. Did I mention sexy? The sex scenes were exactly what they should be: erotic, descriptive, and fitting for the emotions of the characters at the time of the scene. Definitely recommend.

I enjoyed Karis and Michael's story. Karis definitely has some deep issues but, I think they were a bit over done. Lots of sex and some good bantering back and forth. A few missing words and stupid mistakes such as her carpooling with other people on Thanksgiving but leaving in her car. This type of stuff is frustrating. I still would recommend reading it though. 365 pages

The sex scenes are awesome...but geez...I'm so so SO sick of Karis' whiney "poor me". "Feel sorry for me" "I've had such a horrible life". "Nobody has ever had a worse life than me". And because of tnis, she causes Michael to freak out too! I just don't know why he would want to even have a relationship with her other that just "booty calls'. This author is a great writer, but in real life Karis would suck the soul out of anyone around her...including her poor kids!

She feels betrayed by life. Widowed with two great kids but nothing is ever easy or works out well. He gave up one dream and accomplished another but can not build a meaningful life. Together they find love; can they build a happy life together......

I liked the story line. I loved Michael. Eve was a peach! But, poor Karis... oh my the angst... it was never ending. Someone just needed to shake her. Too much "woe is me," "why me?" "poor me!" "me, me, me!" It was exhausting!
