This book is so emotional and so real. Its heart breaking and touching. E.L Montes does an amazing job of making the reader understand what it would be like to live in Jenna's mind. At times it broke my heart but through it all was friendship and love. The best therapy out there, is the love and support of your loved ones. Charlie (her best friend) and Logan were eaxtly what Jenna needed. They fought for her and never gave up.
Over all, I loved this book and Logan was amazing. Swoon!

Love this book from Chapter 1. The story is written from Jenna & Logan's POV, which I love. Characters were well developed and the details were spot on. I was always anxious to read what was coming next. I laughed out loud and cried.
I rated this book 5 stars because it wasn't predictable. As soon as you thought you might know what would happen next, surprised it didn't. I look forward to reading more from E.L. Montes.

I was most drawn to this book because of the blurb. When I learned that the book was about a heroine who had schizoaffective disorder, I knew this was right up my alley. I have a background in Psychology so I was most interested to see how E.L. Montes was going to pull this off. These types of characters are difficult to write because they are trouble and often misunderstood. I wanted to see how she was going to handle that side of her character while also making her likeable.
To be honest, I had a hard time liking heroine, Jenna. She comes across as very standoffish to everyone including her therapist, who I didn’t think tried to pressure her into anything that wasn’t good for her. Her relationship with her family is a little strained. Sometimes they get along, other times they don’t.
When Jenna first meets Logan, he has just “saved her life” and she bursts out with a lot of accusations. Logan doesn’t find it attractive and says something back. However, in an attempt to make someone jealous, Jenna asks Logan to kiss her and that’s when she wonders if she really hates this guy or not.
Logan and Jenna have chemistry, but they also start with not liking it each other much in the beginning. For this reason, I found the attraction to be superficial. Logan’s POV often comes across as a player and I couldn’t invest in him a lot.
Now a little more on the schizoaffective side of the story because that was what I was most interested in with this story. For the most part, I thought Montes handled it okay. I especially liked the hallucinations with her sister. Those turned out to be very interested. However, like I said, Jenna is hard to understand sometimes. I wondered if it was strictly a case of the disorder that prevented me from fully investing in her character. However, I found that I felt the same with Logan’s character as well. Something just didn’t click.
In the end, PERFECTLY DAMAGED turned out to be a pleasant read, exploring the depths of a psychological disorder.

This is the first book that I have read by E.L. Montes.
I gave this book 5 stars.
I have waited for a long time to read a book from this Author.
That being said I was not disappointed.
This is Jenna and Logan's story.
This story tore out my heart right from the beginning, when Jenna has to deal with the nightmares that she is having about her sister being gone. She also suffers from an illness, Schizoaffective disorder: a mental illness in which a person experiences a combination of mood disorder and schizophrenia symptoms.
I don't know much about this illness, it broke my heart to see her have to go through all she did and then have to deal with the nastiness of the person that is called her Mom. She is dealt such crap in her life. Her dad is never around, her Mom is a total Witch with a capital B, her sister is gone and she is dealing with this illness. Enter Logan a beautiful man with a beautiful soul, who knows just what it is like to lose a sibling. He is patient and loving, this playboy falls for Jenna and Jenna keeps pushing him away. Not wanting him to know her secret in fear that he will think she is damaged, broken, beyond repair. Together they form a bond, a beautiful bond that is a start in the right direction for her to finally heal from all the damage that is called her life.
This story like I said before tore out my heart, but it is a beautiful story. A story that is a must read. Life is not always beautiful, but there are beautiful things that we can have in life. Come on Jenna's journey as she discovers that life is sometimes not all we want it to be but there are times when we do get something beautiful out of it.
Thank you for your beautiful story. I cannot wait to read more from you in the future. I met you in Pittsburgh at a signing and you are as talented as you are sweet<3

***** 5 Perfectly Damaged Stars *****
This is one of my favorite books of 2014. I actually found out about this book when I watched a book trailer on Youtube and stumbled upon Perfectly Damaged Book Trailer. Just from the trailer itself I was hooked and wanted to hear KNOW the story. The books messages is so powerful and wow what tough, sensitive topics to battle, and not one but several. I couldn't put this book down. This is my first read by E.L. Montes and I'm so impressed.
The messages throughout the story are just so raw and so true.
How can you ever truly prepare yourself for the future? We don't know what lies ahead and what life will throw our way but it's always easier with someone or love by your side.
“Each day is unexpected. No matter how hard you try, you can never prepare for the life ahead.”
Jenna McDaniel is twenty-one years old and suffers from Schizoaffective disorder and has lost sister eight months ago in a tragic turn of events. She was the one person who held her together. Life has constantly been giving her the short end of the stick. She just wants to be normal and excepted, but she's been living in darkness. Voices. Hallucinations. They invade her thoughts. She knows this illness very well and it is preventing her from letting people in, especially Logan.
“As much as I try to repair my damaged soul, it's useless. How can you fix me, when I can't even fix myself”
Logan is twenty-six years old and works for his uncle's construction company. When they get a job for the McDaniel's, building a guest house. He never thought his whole life would change when he scooped Jenna up off the bottom of the pool. But Jenna keeps pushing him away. She insists Logan never finding out the truth about her cause it will change everything. He will just be like everyone else. He has has flaws and has made mistakes of his own.
“What are you thinking right now?” I ask.
“That your not perfect,” she responds, deadpan.
I snort. “I've never claimed to be.”
“I know I like that about you.”
This story is about:
Letting love in.
Finding ones self.
“Live for today, push for tomorrow,” she repeats. “I like it.”
Things I would of liked:
1: I wish was that there was an epilogue more of what there relationship was like after everything. I did like how it ended in a good place but I would of liked to seen just a little bit more.
2: I know Jenna and her mother didn't get along but I would of liked to seen more of what ended up happening to there relationship in the future. I wanted to see a little more. Especially what ends up happening with her parents because Jenna loved seeing her fathers love for her mother.
This book touched me deeply. My sister suffers from mental illness and it's a struggle not only for me to see her struggle but I know its a struggle for her too. If I have learned anything it's to never give up on the ones who give up on themselves. They are beautiful too and need to be shown that they are loved. This story showed the battles in which both sides face in mental illness. It's amazing how much love can heal. Give Perfectly Damaged a chance it's worth the read.

By the time I was finished with this book I was completely overwhelmed by the journey I’d just taken. This story isn’t pretty. It’s hard and it hurts and it’s real. But this story is also incredibly beautiful and full of hope. Jenna is a survivor. She is my favorite kind of heroine, vulnerable and a little broken but incredibly brave and strong. Jenna lives with a mental illness. A tragedy in her life rips away any sense of “normal” she had and throws her world into emotional chaos. Logan is broken too after dealing with a loss of his own, but he is lucky enough to have a good group of friends and family around. Together they are the perfect mess. There were times when I seriously questioned whether these two people could ever get it together enough to be good for each other. E.L. did such an amazing job crafting and growing Jenna and Logan over the course of the story, that by the end I couldn’t imagine a world where they didn’t meet, didn’t help one another and leave each other forever altered.
What I loved the most about Perfectly Damaged was its honesty. Many times I have read about a character with a mental illness falling in love, and suddenly all of the nightmares and anxiety and depression just melt away. Everything about this story was spot on. E.L. builds this story in every possible direction. She writes about the internal battles and the external forces that make living with a mental illness difficult. The world she has created is incredibly complex, extremely delicate and completely raw. As I moved through this story I couldn’t help but be entirely consumed by it. This book left me emotionally drained. I’m pretty sure I felt just about everything while reading Jenna and Logan’s story. Their story was so easy to connect with, so full of pain and joy and life. Jenna and Logan took a piece of my heart with their story and I’d happily give it away all over again.

Perfectly Damaged was an intense read. From page one there are so many emotions flowing through the story. Jenna is lost. Angry, devastated with grief and can’t find her way out. She’s beginning to not care if she ever does. But there are moments of light. With her friend Charlie. With her memories of her older sister Brooke. And with Logan. As they grow closer he overlooks many of the odd behaviors Jenna has, ones that make up her mental illness. Behaviors that will never go away but may recede and lessen with treatment. The description of her episodes is gripping. The paranoia and fear, along with her intense sadness felt very real.
I liked Jenna’s description of a cure for schizoaffective disorder. As a non- cure. With medication, therapy and a support group she will improve. But as she falls more into love with Logan she isolates herself. And it was terrible that no one trusted Logan enough to tell him the truth. Even Jenna refuses to give him that last bit of herself.
Don’t get me started on Jenna’s mother- wow she is a piece of work. To be so nasty, to heap all of the hurt and blame on Jenna- is it no wonder Jenna has so little hope for anything good to happen with her life?
Logan- what can I say about Logan? He’s truly a good guy. Not perfect. Loyal. Funny. He’s strong and passionate-goes from not really caring about much-coasting through life to caring so much for Jenna. When he falls he falls hard. Enjoyed as he came to realize that he was in love.
Charlie is fantastic. The relationship she has with Jenna is beautiful. Tightly woven with friendship and love, better than sisters. She is the one person who has seen Jenna at her worse and still is her champion. She is also the main one to call Jenna on her crap! Push her out of her comfort zone all the while ready to catch her if it becomes too much.
I was frustrated with the lengthy buildup. Once everything is laid bare the fallout and wrap up felt rushed. My heart broke along with Jenna and Logan.
This was compassionate love story, beautifully and eloquently written. Jenna finding forgiveness and allowing herself to be helped. And loved. Logan completely accepting all of Jenna and giving his all.
Ultimately a tale of hope of honesty. No more hiding in the dark.

This book was absolutely AMAZING!!! The characters are well developed and they just draw you in so that you can feel every emotion they are feeling. Logan is so AWESOME and he loves Jenna despite everything that shel feels is wrong with her. I think that everyone can relate to this story in some way. No one is perfect . . . we all have issues (if you think about it) even if they are just small ones. Wouldn't it be great to have someone to LOVE you through all of that? Well, read this story had find out about how that feels for Logan and Jenna. You will NOT be disappointed in this book. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Rating: 4.5 Stars
Schizoaffective disorder: a mental illness in which a person experiences a combination of mood disorder and schizophrenia symptoms.
I know about this illness—very well—because I suffer from it. It’s been four years since my diagnosis, and ever since, I’ve been living in a dark hole. Voices constantly invading my thoughts. Hallucinations. All of which force me to question if what I’m experiencing is even reality.
But here I am, still hanging on, still breathing and living through it.
That is, until he stumbled into my life. Logan Reed. I don’t want any part of him. I’ve pushed him away, but he isn’t easily deterred. I’ve told him I’m different, but he doesn’t care. He’s trying to slowly break me down. I’m trying just as hard not to let him. He doesn’t know how truly damaged I am; what will happen when he does?
I know the truth—he’ll never be able to look at me the same way again. Just like everybody else
I am a big fan of E.L. Montes. I have had the honor of meeting her on a few different occasions. She is a beautiful soul. That is proven by the writing in this book. She did an absolutely wonderful job writing about such a sensitive subject. I know how much time and research she put into this story. She was very passionate about it. She put her soul on the pages of this book. So congratulations E.L. Montes, Bravo!
In this book we learn about Jenna and her battle with Schizoaffective disorder. we learn about how this disorder affects Jenna, but also how it affects the people who love and care for her. We learn about the tragedy she has been faced with in her life and how she tries to overcome it.
After the a tragic event in her life Jenna started to go down hill. Her and her family were morning and they all handed it differently. What should have brought them closer some how started to tear them apart. Jenna started hearing and seeing things that weren't really there. When she mentioned it to her family they thought she was playing a cruel joke.
Jenna's best friend was the only person she had to lean on. Even though Jenna was a difficult friend Charlie always stood by her and tried to support her in anyway she could.
Jenna's parents want to surprise her for her upcoming birthday with a new guest house. So she contracts a company to come and do the work.
That is how Jenna and Logan meet.
Logan Reed has had a hard life too. After experiencing a very similar event in his life, he did what ever he could to cope.
He works for his uncle now and is keeping his life on the right path. That path just happened to cross with Jenna's. Even though their first encounter wasn't the best, they become friends.
Logan doesn't know about Jenna's condition or of her past. She finally found someone who doesn't judge her or pity her for what she is going through. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time and he knows how to keep his mouth shut and not push her to answer questions she obviously doesn't want to answer. He is her knight is shinning armor.
"My mother's advice hums through my mind as I put the car in drive. She said when a woman is pissed, leave her alone to cool off, but never leave her side, because if she's in need of a hug, you'll be the first person she'll find." ~Logan
(I love this scene! It really is such good advice. This quote has stuck with me for a month now.)
Jenna knows that she has feelings for Logan, but she doesn't think he will stay if he knows the truth. So she keeps putting off the inevitable.
"I'm never giving up on what we have, Jenna." ~Logan
I am not going to go into any more detail about the story itself. It is an amazing story of courage, love and loyalty. It is a MUST read. I know you will all laugh and cry right along with the rest of us.
"Live today, push for tomorrow," ~Jenna

Love this book!! Love Jenna and Logan's relationship develop. E.L Montes did a great job making this book come to life.
Fare warning...this book will make you laugh as well as make you ball in tears. She does a great job illustrating what goes on in the minds of mental health. Working in mental health I have to say E.L nailed it by tackling on a touchy subject. I hope everyone will read and enjoy this book as much as did. This is a must read book for 2014.
