My Summary: A lot has happened in the year since Charlotte left

    My Summary:
A lot has happened in the year since Charlotte left Calvin in Energo. Her brother has left for college, Henry is living with them, James is still in Charleston helping to guard her, and Liam is ever faithful always there to provide comfort and friendship. While her life in Charleston remains relatively safe, she can't stop thinking about Calvin and how she left him behind. She's also had to come to terms with what is means for her to be the Essence.

When unexpected events take Charlotte and Kevin back to Energo, their friends rally behind them. Once there, Kevin and Charlotte feel that it's best to split up and build their force to fight Blake. Will they each be able to gather enough strength to make the world of Energo right again?

    My Take:
When Charlotte and gang returned to Charleston at the end of book one, I was left wondering where the story would build from there. Well, I have to say that I was definitely able to connect more with the characters more this time around. On occasion, the second book can leave me a bit disappointed, but I found the opposite here. I felt like the plot become more interesting and the characters were more developed.

I was absolutely thrilled to see more of Liam in this book and I have my fingers crossed that Charlotte will come to her senses and ditch Calvin for Liam. I love how Liam is a constant support for Charlotte. I was so excited that his feelings for her became more clear and I loved the dialogue between them.

Kevin's character became much stronger too. I love the role he has taken as one of Charlotte's guardians. His dedication to his sister and his family is touching. Also, I loved seeing Kevin and Samantha develop more of a relationship. Samantha is a kick butt character and is a perfect match for Kevin.

Again I say, that I enjoyed seeing how the plot developed. The ending battle scenes give the reader just enough of a preview into the big climax that is sure to come in last book in the trilogy. I definitely look forward to seeing how the story ends.

My Overall thoughts/Impressions: After only four pages, I was reminded of why I loved the first novel in this series so much. Alyssa is a master story weaver. Four pages in and I was absolutely captivated by this tale.

I absolutely loved this novel. Out of all the forty novels I’ve read this year, this is the second one to receive a five.

The characters are very well developed. I loved the characters Charlotte, Kevin, and Liam. I still haven’t made up mind about Calvin yet, but I know I loved reading about him. I have to admit that Liam just might be my favorite character. He’s the guy that everybody wished they knew. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how his character evolves in the next book.

Charlotte is a strong heroine, but also one who has her failings. I loved that she was so strong and yet still plagued with weakness.

I absolutely love the world-building in this novel as well. In fact, her world-building is tied for the best I’ve seen this year.

This is a very well-written fantasy novel that mixes just enough realism, romance, intrigue, and adventure to leave me thoroughly entertained and absolutely captivated by the tale.

Often times, the sequels to novels aren't as good as the first one and seem to lag. This one was amazing and enhanced the tale. Basically, this is one of the view times I've liked the sequel better than the first one. That was also another reason why I loved this book.

I definitely recommend this series to anybody and everybody. Trust me—you want to buy this one.

In Summary: One of the best novels I’ve read this entire year. I absolutely adore Alyssa’s writing style, her characters, her story line, and basically everything about this book. Just read it and you’ll see what I mean.

Warning/Side-note: There are minor instances of violence, but they are very minor. Really nothing in this book would result in me hesitating to recommend it.

The Wrap-up: An absolutely beautiful novel that I adore. One of the best novels I have read this year and even in the last few years. I will definitely be anxiously waiting for the third and final novel in this series. I am absolutely enthralled with this series and am so thankful that I was able to read both this one and the sequel.

Perilous Light is action packed and full of twists and turns that will rival the previous book.
In this book we finally get to see more of my favorite couple Charlotte and Calvin, but we also find out that there are still a lot of surprises left for Charlotte and her brother on their journey. Charlotte has done a lot of growing up in the past year, but she faces even bigger trials that will test her abilities to the limit.

I highly enjoyed seeing Kevin finally meet his match in the last book and was very curious to see how or if that relationship would develop any further and I was not disappointed. While there were plenty of humorous scenes with Kevin he was also put to the test when he is sent out to find help. We get to see how Kevin adapts to the world of Energo in this book as he tries to find his way in this strange world while coping with his feelings for Samantha.
Calvin is without a doubt my absolute favorite character and I must admit to having a big crush on him. I liked that we got to see a lot more about him in this book. We got to see glimpses of his character before, but we get to see into his head a lot more in this one and he really is a sweet and noble man.
I highly recommend this series to anyone looking for a unique new world with great characters and a bit of romance. For anyone who is already a fan of this series you are sure to love this newest installment!

This is book two in the Afterglow Trilogy. I reviewed the first book, Beckoning Light, a while back and really enjoyed it. So I was thrilled to get a chance to review this one.

Charlotte has learned about her place in "another world" and is coming to grips with the fact that she is the Essence and belongs to someone else. But before she can get control of her special abilities she finds herself at war to save her new home.

This book was just as good as the first one. It deals more with her new life in Energo and how she is learning to use her powers to help those around her.
It is just as fascinating as the first book. The author has a beautiful way of writing a story that pulls you along almost before you realize what is happening.
My only complaint is that now I have to wait for the third book to come out.

I received this book free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

Incredible sequel from a very promising Author! The book picks up a year after the last book and quickly dives in with plenty of adventure and romance. It is not long before they return to Energo for more adventures. Probably my favorite part is the further development of Kevin and Samantha. Also learning more about Calvin was very exciting. The story provides plenty of action, romance, and comedy. I can't wait to read the next and consider this book even better than the last!

    Very good

I bought this as soon as I finished book 1 of the series and immediately purchased book 3 when I finished this one. A nice entertaining quick read that you do not get bored with and have to walk away from after a bit of reading.

Lots going on as series, loves and perilous hopes progress.

Perilous Light is the second book in Alyssa Rose Ivy’s Afterglow trilogy. With lots of characters and civilizations, plus separate worlds, it might seem a little confusing to anyone who’s not read part one. But it follows the previous book nicely. The narrators, Charlotte and Kevin, have grown a little older. Meanwhile love interest Calvin gets to add his voice, useful since the battle lines are going to be drawn three ways. Sports star Kevin might learn a new appreciation for his sister’s shyness when he's asked to undertake some public speaking, in an alien land. And quiet Charlotte will soon have to choose between physical attraction and the lure of magical love.

The world beyond the gate grows in this book to include more civilizations and creatures. Meanwhile the real world remains convincingly modern with underage parties and the lure of alcohol. While the characters continue to abstain and maintain their PG13 rating, it seems surprisingly easy for them to take risks and go partying.

Soon they’re heading into the unknown again, with danger, temptation and confusion, a mother to be rescued and a throne to be won. The mix of modern and medieval dialog isn’t always convincing and leadership skills might seem oddly assigned, but there’s magic in the air, nicely woven in some really good scenes, and there’s mystery still, with intriguing hints of how the story will be completed in part three.

Disclosure: I received a free ecopy of this novel from Enchanted Book Tours in exchange for my honest review.
