A fast and furious new Matchmaker in Wonderland novel from the New York Times bestseling author of Daring in a Blue Dress.
Sheltered by a strict father, Paulina Rostakova spends her time working for the family business and yearning for some grand adventure. So when contestants are needed for a reality show reenacting an historic 1908 car race across the US, Asia, Russia, and Europe, Paulie jumps at the chance to get behind the wheel of a vintage car.
Dixon Ainslie has nothing to lose by entering the race, except the rut he’s been in since the death of his girlfriend years ago. But as other racers begin to drop out, the producers want Dixon to join forces with Paulie—on one condition: they have to pretend to fall in love and get married.
And as their scripted courtship takes off, Dixon and Paulie will have to take a detour into reality to turn the sparks flying between them into a passion with staying power...

When a feisty but sheltered heiress and a stifled Englishman team up on an epic around-the-world race, it gets more than just their motors running.Paulina Rostakova has lived under her father's firm but benevolent thumb for almost 30 years after an attempted kidnapping when she was 6. Paulie loves her dad but is frustrated by his interference in her life. When her stepmother suggests she take part in a reality show inspired by The Great Race, Paulie is excited about embarking on an adventure worthy of her hero, Nellie Bly. It's a chance for freedom as well as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to dress up in period clothes and drive a vintage car. Meanwhile, Dixon Ainslie has been withering away managing his brother's estate and recovering from the death of his fiancee. An adventure might be just the thing to help him put his life into high gear. Dixon and Paulie are both awkward, and their meet-cute is painfully so. But after being thrown together by circumstance, their attraction is clear. Once the race is underway, they begin secretly hooking up off camera. Unfortunately, a rival team is picking off contestants one by one. After their teammates are sidelined, the producers ask Dixon and Paulie to pretend to be in love and get married in order to keep the competition on track. A series of high jinks ensue, and the two encounter a hitchhiking Star Wars stormtrooper, a torrential downpour, a brief kidnapping by the worst thugs ever, and more. The sex is there, though it's a little flat. If that's a deterrent for some readers, they may be won back by the zany antics and funny dialogue. The shifting perspectives—the novel is told through journal entries and text conversations (with hilarious autocorrects)—add new and refreshing elements to the story as well.A sweet if occasionally silly adventure.

This was a typical Katie book and of you are a fan of Katie's, you will most likely enjoy seeing adults act like moronic teenagers. This was a cute story, but Katie's descriptions of sex are wearing a little thin for me -what was really funny a decade ago is not so funny as I age. I guess that makes Katie a great author for those who are new to her and will be reading everything Katie has written in one huge gulp. As I said, this was a cute story and the plot-line was a bit more unique than the norm. However, it quickly lost its uniqueness as the romance part heated up. *ARC supplied by publisher

This review was written by Marie for a guest review post on Ever After Book Reviews blog: 5 Stars Katie MacAlister has always been one of my go-to authors when I want a feel-good romance. She just knows how to bring a light-hearted, fun story to life. So, when The Perils of Paulie was available for my review, I just had to snag it up! This story is a sharp and witty book that reads a lot like “The Great Race” or “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”. Told through extremely creative writing, this sweet romance between Paulie and Dixon is a wonderfully entertaining read. It’s nothing new in terms of a romantic plot line, but the execution of the author’s talents makes it feel fresh and exciting. Add on top of that the author’s innate ability to make you laugh yourself to tears every single time, and you’ve got all the makings for a brilliant story. Ms. MacAlister, you never fail me. You truly are a gift to the literary world of romance. ***I read and reviewed a paperback copy of the book provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All conclusions reached are my own***

This is book 4 in the Ainsley Brothers Series. Paulie, is the daughter of a floor magnate. Her father is an overprotective super-paranoid floor magnate with Russian ties. Oh, and at twenty-nine-years-old, she's still living at home. Yeah, she tried to leave but her father nearly had a heart attack, literally. But her stepmother, who seems adept at walking the line between Paulie and her father, suggests to Paulie that she join a race, which is a modern day remake of the 1908 New York to Paris race. What better way than an international race where she gets to dress and act like a suffragette, while channeling her heroine Nellie Bly. Paulie and Dixon who is also in the race from England have both found themselves on reality television show that's reenacting a historical 1908 round the world car race. It's an adventure of a lifetime, The race is complete with teams driving the antique cars, old-fashioned clothes, cut throat competition, and of course a little romance. Dixon is a fellow competitor, and the sexy Englishman draws in Paulie from the beginning. Too bad he seems to loathe her touch. But Paulie has a way of getting past that. She talks Dixon into writing a journal. They are having their first real adventure together. They was such a fun dynamic between them that at times had me laughing out loud. There were definitely some nice little sexy moments between them as well. It was interesting to see their story from both of their journals. The journaling and texting entries were a fun and at times hilarious addition. The recounting of the race with bad guys, vehicle mishaps, a dog in a stroller, so many shenanigans to name but a great read. You find yourself rooting for Paulie and Dixon to win the race. Another big hit for Katie’s. This story was a fun read with her wicked sense of humor, some romance, adventure, and fun. The Perils of Paulie was a hoot.
