Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Judith Klevan, BSPharm (Jeanes Hospital)
Description: This is a set of pocket-sized reference cards held together with a metal ring containing frequently used equations, tables, guidelines, and other necessary information for pharmacists.
Purpose: The purpose is to provide an easily carried, accessible set of reference cards with needed, valuable information. Many times this information is needed when there is no access to a computer. These cards are meant to be a substitute for homemade note cards carried around in the lab coat pockets of pharmacists everywhere.
Audience: Hospital pharmacists are the intended audience, but this resource also could be used by pharmacy students, medical students, residents, and physicians.
Features: The laminated, sturdy cards include equations for body mass index, body surface area, and creatinine clearance. They also detail weights and measures, conversion tables, and disease state guidelines for conditions such as asthma, hypertension, COPD, and others. The cards also include tables and charts, and list websites for further information. However, some of the tables are small and difficult to read.
Assessment: This is a very useful and handy set of pocket reference cards with frequently needed information, equations, and guidelines. This update is necessary to reflect the latest guidelines for various disease states.
