Overview

Coming off a year that saw him named the Academy of Country Music's Top New Male Vocalist, earning three Country Music Association nominations, and topping the country charts with three singles, Mark Wills stays on his natural high with PERMANENTLY. The engaging 26-year-old vocalist delivers the goods on a nice variety of tunes, many of them looking with a favorable eye on relationships and commitments, sort of edging him into Clay Walker territory. "Because I Love You" is a soaring, hook-laden example, and Wills tears it up. On the other hand, "Almost Doesn't Count" bemoans the dangers of tentative affairs, suggesting the only way to love is to jump in with both feet and with eyes wide open. Wills is at his most persuasive on "Rich Man," where the title joe keeps it right as a husband and father, being "rich in love" if not in coin. Sounds like a plan, and Wills sounds like he's headed for deserved chart riches with this radio-ready outing.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Maria Konicki Dinoia
With a reputation for music and songs that speak to people's hearts, Mark Wills' Permanently doesn't disappoint. With songs like "In My Arms" about being a dad to a brand-new baby daughter (a tribute to his little girl) and "Rich Man" about being rich in love, Wills' has a penchant for appealing to fans' sensitive sides. But whether he's singing about love, loss, fear, joy, or hope, Wills delivers a rock-solid third album with ease and confidence. No doubt that comes from working with producer Carson Chamberlain for the third time and singing about the things he knows best. Mixing things up just a bit, Wills recorded "Almost Doesn't Count," a song made popular by pop star Brandy, with his very own brand of soulful country.
