Overview

NAOMI TALBOT is haunted by shadows--shadows which confide in her, shadows which taunt her, shadows which remind her of what she has become. Popular fiction would label her--vampire. But she is more than what that word can define. She is a traveler between parallel worlds--the worlds of the living and the dead.

Savannah Georgia is as much a part of Naomi's existence as is the stolen blood which flows through her veins. For it was in this sultry city, in the year 1923, that Naomi learned of love. A love that found its place in the hearts of two young women...a love that would transcend death itself. For Naomi, ESTHER BLANKENSHIP was the embodiment of that love.

Cut off from the living at the birth of her sexual awakening, Naomi journeys through eight decades of self-discovery as she questions love, immortality, and God. In her quest to reunite herself with her lost Esther, she soon learns of the dark curse which has brought about her condition--a curse that was placed on her family by slaves long dead for sins which have not been forgotten. As Naomi seeks answers from the spirits of her dead ancestors, she is soon called upon to protect the last living member of her family from the darkness which haunts them. For Naomi, this will come at a great price...

Dramatic entry into the literary world

This book more than met my expectations. It made me think of life through the eyes of watching a family evolve and move through the world. The love, hope and despair of the characters were powerfully displayed throughout Laura Beth Caldwell's tale.

    Totally enjoyed "Perpetual Care".

This is a totally unique new way of telling a vampire tale. It has suspense, romance and sadness. The author is very descriptive, she makes you feel like you are there, feeling the breezes, smelling the fragrances and the dangers of Savannah. I am an artist and not much of a book reader because I am extremely visual and most books do not maintain my interest, thus becoming boring. They do not feed my visual soul, this book came to life through Laura's words and I was transported to the world of Savannah and it's shadows. I loved the way the author tied the Prologue and the last chapter together, it just totally made sense, a real touch of genius. "Perpetual Care" constantly held my interest, kept me thirsting for more. The love stories are enchantingly beautiful and touching, the suspense is tingling and hair raising.

Absolutely can not wait for the sequel. I recommend "Perpetual Care" to everyone who loves romance, suspense, vampires and the enticement of the South.

    more from this reviewer

I enjoyed the context of the book. At points the characters were speaking volumes with their actions and thoughts.

The book caught my attention and it was hard to put it down. Can you imagine life after death, when you have to pay for the sins of your ancestors? At points the description of the 'ghosts' were down right freaky. I would recommend the book to adults over 18 years of age.

Fresh and unique apporach to an age old genre

My attention was captured from the first. The author quickly grabbed me with the main characters and I could visualize the settings easily and the adventure just took me away. I hope the author has more in store for her characters because this had an unexpected and intriguing approach to the vampire genre.
