Perpetual Family is my favorite book of this series so far. Albert and Anne both step up to the plate in this book and show us the strength and character they both possess. Anne's fierce love for her husband and child along with Albert's tender, loving care of his wife and baby, and his fear for their future as long as John Wallace is alive, make up the backbone of this story.
Albert and Anne become parents in this, the third book of the Albert & Anne series. Albert is somewhat nervous about the possibility that he may have to deliver their first child himself but grabs hold of his boot straps and makes all the necessary preparations, with quiet determination to rise to the task and to not upset Anne. He is greatly relieved when Dr. Paul does arrive in time to oversee the delivery and shows us that he is a very proud Papa when he introduces his son to his father and brothers. Their life seems to settle into a comfortable routine as they begin their life with their newborn son. Albert remains close to home, not willing to leave his new family without his protection. Their peace and happiness is, unfortunately, short lived.
Queue the dastardly villain music! Anne's father is most upset by the news of the birth of his grandson, as there is now one more heir between himself and Anne's inheritance. The lengths that this man will go to for that money had me wishing I could get my hands on him myself. I could not believe what was taking place, the pain and suffering that this man inflicted on his daughter and her family. And then, when I got to the end of this one, I wanted to throw my NOOK at the wall!
The emotions are all there, again, in this book, the joy, the love, the anger and the heartbreak for the suffering Anne has endured throughout her life. April 1st and the release of the final book in this series cannot come soon enough for me but, by the same token, I will be very sorry to see this series end.
