Overview

The real story of the Republican vice presidential nominee and her collision with the elite liberal media

As the second woman ever nominated as a candidate for vice president, Alaska governor Sarah Palin became an instant phenomenon. Americans were enthralled by a woman with charm, ambition, natural political talent, and a passion for conservative values.

But the fascination of ordinary people quickly drew an unprecedented attack from the media elite and liberal activists. Far beyond the normal bounds of tough questions and challenges, Palin's enemies decided that nothing was too personal to attack-including her marriage, her children, her faith, and her wardrobe. The media distorted Palin's positions and beliefs beyond recognition. And almost every word out of her mouth was spun as a "flub."

Weekly Standard writer Matthew Continetti reveals the true story of the 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee and her persecution by the elites who tried to hide their bias with solemn declarations of objectivity. Continetti offers fresh examples of malicious spin and deceit and shows how liberal snobbery has become a driving force in American politics.

Palin's ordeal has become a rallying cry for the GOP in the Obama era. This perceptive book is a must-read for conservatives who want to understand what really happened-and how to avoid a repeat.

What People Are Saying

Brit Hume
"A compelling account of journalistic malpractice on a grand scale. Those called out in this book should not be allowed to forget what they did."--(Brit Hume, senior political analyst, Fox News)
Byron York
"What set off the media feeding frenzy over Sarah Palin's place on the 2008 Republican presidential ticket? Was there something wrong with Palin? Or something wrong with the media? Matthew Continetti finds the answer--and exposes the media's worst excesses."--(Byron York, chief political correspondent, The Washington Examiner)
John Ziegler
"If every member of the anti-Palin media was simply forced to read and understand just the first page of this book, what is left of journalism in this country would be greatly improved. If every voter had done so prior to the election, we might have a different President right now."--(John Ziegler, creator of the film Media Malpractice)
Karl Rove
"Matthew Continetti has written a tough, revealing look at how the bias or habits of liberals in the media led them to assault a political figure who shared neither their values nor background. Whether you like Sarah Palin or not, this well-researched and meticulous volume strips the bark off influential players in journalism."--(Karl Rove, Former Deputy Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to President George W. Bush)

    palin prosecuted

"the persecution of sarah palin" is a very remarkable bestseller. the arthur has done alot of research on the former vice president and how certain aspects of the media did not cheak their facts out and printed them whean they turned out to be untrue the writer of this book documented all of these stories and found them to be untrue this is a fasinating book at how some people will go to great lengths to slander a candidate all because they are frightened of them. this is very hard to put down and it showed me alot of courage that sarah palin had and that I got to know.

"The Persecution of Sahah Palin" expels the horrible myths.

I think that this book really tells it like it is and gives us the truth about the horrible myths and lies that were perpetrated by the mass media during the last presidential election. Mr. Continetti gives you the myth and lies and then tells you the facts as they truely are. It is a great read about a female conservative who deserved better treatment by the so-called media of today that is so dominated by their liberal bias. It is a great read.

The rightwing defense of Palin hits overdrive

Do you remember the time on Keith Olbermann when he asked where was the birth certificate on Palin being born in the US and not Ireland? What, you never heard that? No birther movement for Palin to prove that she is not a citizen of Ireland? No? Well, how about the time when Sarah Palin was accused of denying her actual religious beliefs and of being a secret Hindu who wants to impose Hinduism on America? Nope, well so much much for "persecution." Obama of course has been called a secret Muslim from Kenya but I guess she is the one being "persecuted."

The author's defense of Palin's belief in witches (yes, she believes in witches) and her video apperance with a witchdoctor proves this, is that Democrats who are Catholic believe in a church where there still are arachic beliefs in the devil/ possession. In particular he mentions VP Joe Biden. Yes, Biden is a Catholic but I am glad he isn't as close to literalism (though Palin isn't quite a literalist) as Palin. Let's face it, nobody truly follows the bible 100% as literal, even Pat Roberston or Jerry Falwell before he died. They would look like liberal progressive Christians if they went back in time to the 13th century. So would Palin. So, since moving away from biblical literaism is a long and good tradition in the West I would rather have politicans farther along in this tradition, such as Biden over Palin. The author states that Palin did not censor any book and that is true. But there are at least a few witnesses that testify she asked about how to remove library books and the head librarian (Mary Ellen Emmons) was later fired by Palin and then rehired after public pressure. No mention of this fact in the book.

Lastly, Sarah Palin is the real "chosen one", not Obama. While segements of America do love Obama, it pales in comparision to the views of the hard right when it comes to Palin. She is viewed in a way that I believe is even beyond that of Ronald Reagan, by the rightwing.
