Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Sharon Oliver
This volume from the "All About Cats" series focuses on the popular Persian breed. Packed with information in four short chapters, readers are invited to explore this history of the breed with its likely origins in Asia, the variations on the modern Persian breed and helpful information for caring for a pet Persian cat. In addition to copious factual information, the author also includes a popular legend about Persian cats that adds to the interest level of the mostly matter-of-fact text. Large photos with informative captions work to enhance the textual information and small fact boxes abound featuring facts such as, "Many people say Persians communicate with their eyes instead of their voices." Small boxes containing definitions of words used on the pages' text are presented, but the glossary at the end only duplicates those words without any additions. In addition to the glossary, end matter includes suggestions for further reading, directions to the FactHound website for information on the Internet and a thorough index. The reading level of this book may be higher than the interest level, but the book will have appeal as an addition to the cat collection. Reviewer: Sharon Oliver
