Chocked full of common sense and mostly pain free advice, Personal Finance Simplified is a good starting point for individuals needing to reign in their budgetary lifestyle.  This easy to understand and implement guide illustrates money choices in a straightforward fashion that anyone can apply to their lifestyle.  This book was surprisingly enjoyable for a non-fiction book about a dry topic.

This is a very fast read. This book is direct and does not divert away from basic budgeting. If one is looking for a simplified method to get going on a budget, this book lays everything out for the reader setting goals, getting out of debt, and making your own personal budget. Sometimes the material gets dry, but this book makes budgeting easy to understand and simple to start on.

Personal Finance Simplified is quite basic and can get a bit tedious at times. It would be good for younger individuals learning about finances though. It does provide "real life" examples of how to budget and things you may not consider when dealing with your finances.

LOOKING AT MONEY IN A NEW WAY

For someone (like me) whose idea of “smart money management” is limited to being able to pay my rent every month, this book is an eye-opener and a shot of encouragement. The writer wisely doesn’t overload the book with a lot of financial jargon (terms are explained in a friendly way that won’t make you feel like a financial failure) and practical solutions are offered. There were at least two tips here I’ll use when filing my taxes next week (I’m never in a rush to do that) and much much more. I’ll never look at $5 the same way again.

I'm not a math genius and my handling of money has never been perfect. However, this book presents many ideas and tips for how to start slow and get your arms wrapped around your personal finances. After reading section one, I already felt empowered to put together a simple budget. After finishing the book, I'm focused on long-term personal financial planning to ensure I can retire in the lifestyle I've become accustomed.

This book is great for people early in their money managing experience or for older people. I wish I read this book when I was in college! The information that really stood out was the Ten Items to Buy Used and the Budget section. The tips are easy to put into action. This book has helped me to want to pay more attention to my finances rather than just winging it and manage my budget.

This book has some valuable information. It is simply written and easy to understand.  It can be helpful for people, young and old. The Ten Simple Ways to Trim your spending is awesome.  The chapter about keeping a Budget is excellent!  I always thought I was “keeping a Budget”, but had no idea the information I was leaving off.  I guess that is why there is a part in the book called 7 Budget categories People tend to forget!  There was even information about helping you buy a home, choosing how to invest spare income, 401k’s, IRA’s  and whether or not you should get life insurance.  Great Information when you need it.    (I did not pay for this book.)

Great book for someone who is starting out at any age and confused about where to start.  It explains good debt and bad debt, what a smart  choice is from a bad choice.  Gives real life examples of hidden "money pits" that everyone has fallen into.  A basic example is eating out 5 days a week for lunch versus packing your own lunch .   Not only do you eat a much healthier lunch if you make your own but you also save a ton of money in doing so.  It's not as fancy but it does pad your bottom line
Just a great read with practical financial advice

This book really does make personal finance concepts accessible. It provides a lot of concrete examples and rules of thumb to explain concepts like budgeting, or the difference between good and bad debt. The authors seem authoritative - but they're not boring. I also thought the level of detail was just right. After reading this, I certainly have one fewer excuse to procrastinate about getting my financial house in order.

The gems this book offers is the ¿plan your own budget¿ section

The gems this book offers is the “plan your own budget” section which I think is very helpful and essential for anyone who has trouble living within their own means.  It also provides basic insight on borrowing money, investments, avoiding the debt snowball effect, and even basic when planning to buy a house.  All in all, this book is a must read for anyone feeling the need to fix their spending habits or anyone fresh out of college.

The percentage of Americans that live within their written budget is shockingly low.  "Personal Finance Simplified" is a wonderful book that will carefully guide you through all the necessary tasks that lead to setting up a budget, purchasing insurance, figuring out "good" and "bad" debt and more.  This book will patiently show you how to live within your means without overwhelming you with complex details.  It's definitely a worthy investment!

If our schools taught mandatory consumer math classes, then perhaps the outcomes of recession, the busts of our economy, consumer debt, and poverty levels may be altered somewhat, but unfortunately, these classes are not a graduation requirement. However, we can still be students and learn some significant concepts of finance simply by reading Personal Finance Simplified. It certainly gives a remarkable education on learning how money works so we can make our future stay in the black! I recommend it to anyone of any age, and will be a requirement for my children to pass Mom’s University!
