What People Are Saying

Letha Hadady
From a barnesandnoble.com e-nnouncement

Letha Hadady, a nationally certified acupuncturist and author of the modern classic on Chinese herbal medicine, Asian Health Secrets, focuses her healing talents on rejuvenation in her latest book, Personal Renewal. Hadady's program to rediscover vitality and health includes herbal remedies, refreshing diets, restorative exercises, and herbal baths along with a yearlong rejuvenation calendar. In the exclusive essay below, Hadady applies her natural approach to finding the Original Lover.

Renew the Original Lover in You by Letha Hadady

What can be more rejuvenating than love? It is a cherished mystery that escapes those who are unprepared. We may become discouraged by illness and disappointments, but we begin to feel old when we lose the spark of love and the joy of the senses. With the right foods and herbs, you can renew the Original Lover you once were, one who was strong and confident, and truly believed in springtime's promise of romance. Even if you are celibate, enhancing sexual power can increase vitality and long life.

Begin by creating physical and emotional wellness. To find or rekindle love, you'll need strength and courage. A diet low in fats and animal protein increases sexuality because less time and energy is required for digestion. I recommend fruits and vegetables; sprouted beans; white rice; soy products; salmon, sardines, or mackerel; olive oil, seaweeds such as hijiki, kelp, nori, and dulce; and five to ten cups daily of warm green tea, which is slimming and rich in antioxidants. A Japanese all-fiber noodle called Shirataki, available from distributors who supply Japanese restaurants, cleanses the body of cholesterol and fat.

If you are shy, certain homeopathic remedies taken throughout the day, between meals, will relax you without dulling your mind. Homeopathic gelsemium 30c reduces apprehension anxiety -- the fear that you might be rejected. Homeopathic aconite 30c is for panic. You can use the two remedies together.

If your lover prefers a stiff drink or an argument instead of a romantic evening, serve a tea that contains a dose of homeopathic nux vomica 30c, a cure for hangover and overwork. A handful of epimedium leaves (a precursor of testosterone) and fructus lychii ( a blood-building herb) simmered in one quart of water for 20 minutes builds long-term sexual vitality. Drink one to three cups daily between meals. Chinese ginseng releases the same brain chemical as Viagra without the damaging side effects.

Before an evening of love, clear the air of negativity (or of former loved ones!) by spreading around essential lavender oil. An aphrodisiac recipe from ancient Greece includes eggs, garlic, onions, and asparagus. Eggs and asparagus take sexual irritants (onions and garlic) to the area of arousal. After dinner, enjoy the rejuvenating hormonal massage from Personal Renewal in order to feel the joy of spiritual union with your beloved or to escape a prison of loneliness. I send you my love.
