Country music superstar Trace Adkins isn't exactly known for holding back what's on his mind. And if the millions of albums he's sold are any indication, when Trace talks, people listen. Now, in A Personal Stand, Trace Adkins delivers his maverick manifesto on politics, personal responsibility, fame, parenting, being true to yourself, hard work, and the way things ought to be.

To me, A Personal Stand is two books entertwined: an editorial that voices the opinions of the average American, or at least the average American who is old enough to shave, and the autobiography of a man whose strength of mind and body are inspirational. There are few voices in the media, on television, the radio, or in print who speak for us and Trace does. He speaks the words others are afraid to voice because they are contrary to the opinions of ultra liberal owners of those media. My favorite parts of his book though, are the stories of his life. Trace has been beaten and battered, yet each time he is knocked down he has come back better and stronger than before. Believe the publisher's note: 'Brash, ballsy, persuasive, and controversial, A Personal Stand isn¿t just the story of Trace Adkins¿s life it¿s the story of what life can teach all of us.' A teaser for all the Trace fans who haven't read the book. In it you will find out... what happened in Trace's youth that made his decision to wear his hair long, so important to him...what he did to keep himself calm during a hurricane while trapped miles out at sea and hundreds of feet in the air on an oil derrick....the cause of him getting the worse beating of his life.....the real reason why he didn't press charges against the person who shot him through the heart. Okay, if that doesn't make you want to read it, I don't know what will.

Nice to know that all entertainers are not wacked out ultra liberals. Trace Adkins just opens up and tells it like it is! His background and life experiences have made him wise and wonderful! Interesting and honest reading. No big ego here...admits mistakes, gracious and grateful...and what a tallent, what a voice!

I thoroughly enjoyed Trace's book - made me think...somethings I agreed with and some I am not sure but it proved he is smart, knowledgeable, and thought provoking. Proves all Southerners are not dumb hicks! Way to go Trace!

Trace Adkins' book 'A Personal Stand, Observations and Opinions from a Freethinking Roughneck' is the most honest picture of the state of how things are that I have ever read. Trace's honesty and candor when discussing topics from politics to organized labor to illegal immigration is mostly likely the opinion of many. Unfortunately others that feel the same as Trace are too intimidated or shy to say how they feel. Trace shares his innermost thoughts and opinions on numerous topics and should be admired and appreciated for telling it like it is. This is a good read for anyone, especially those with strong opinions about the state of the nation and the need for change.

I liked getting inside his head and feeling right at home with the way he thinks about things. I didn't want to put the book down because it was interesting reading. It was funny, sad, and enlightening. I may just read it again when I am done.

I Also Recommend:
I loved the book. Trace's life experiences were very interesting. But his views on current events and political policies we exceptional. For a redneck he is very intelligent and agreed with almost all his views. I loved the colorful way he expresses himself. I passed it on to someone who doesn't know who Trace Adkins is, but would recommend it even more to a Trace Adkins fan. Great book

Trace is an honest, down to earth speaker from the heart. He has strong views and can back them up with good information. He's very intelligent and has a lot of life experience given his age. Sometimes what he says is hard to swallow, but for the most part, I wish this book came out before the running of the 2008 elections - it would have opened some people's eyes that needed to be opened in government and the higher ups in organizations.
I find it to be educational, informative and funny at times, but mostly realistic. He speaks from his gut and his heart/brain. It's very refreshing!

Mr. Adkins gives a very straight forward view of his life and how he views life. His knowledge of history will surprise a few. Very easy to read and I found it quite enjoyable. It gave me a different view of this county music star.

I loved this book. Got stuck for over four hours getting my oil changed, and I brought this book along, Thank God! Everything Trace has gone thru and he is still strong and fighting. And his political preferences, you cannot knock them. I like them. Saw him a few weeks later in concert, amazing. This man has had a hard time and has come out on top. What a role model for everyone today. Hitting the bottom is not always bad, because once you have, there is only one way to go. UP!

I found this book to be most enjoyable. I got it on a Friday and was finished reading it by Sunday. I couldn't put it down. I knew before I started reading it that I shared a lot of the same opinions as Trace and reading his book only confirmed this for me. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to enjoy a good read that is both informative and comical 'in a good way'. Trace really has a great sense of humor.

This is the first book I've read in years. Trace writes as if you are having a personal conversation with him. Trace is incredibly intelligent which is why I believe Donald Trump had Trace on his show. I am a graduate of OU majored in Political Science and I wished I'd had Trace's book as required reading in college, as Trace explained so many political processes in such a practical yet accurate measure. I look forward to seeing Trace in person at 8-31 concert in Shreveport. I would love to get his autograph on his great book.

I enjoyed reading this colorful tale of the beliefs and life stories of a country mega star. Well written and full of antedotes. A fine 'beach chair' read. Enjoy Adkins' humor laced through out the pages.

One may agree or disagree with Trace Adkins views on A to Z, but one has to admire his guts to speak his opinions. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and found myself in agreement on most of Trace's feelings. Many points stood out, but one that really grabbed me was he, as a father, handling the 9/11 disaster with his young daughter...remember the day when you saw no planes flying. Straight from the hip, this is a man's no nonsense look at the world and I would highly recommend it!
