Reviewer: Gina M. Caputo, MA, LCPC (Cermak Health Services)
Description: This book resulted from an APA conference on Applied Personality Psychology: The Intersection of Personality and I/O Psychology, held in 1999 at the University of Tulsa. The three areas covered are personality-I/O interface, measurement and assessment issues in applied personality psychology, and emerging themes in applied personality psychology.
Purpose: The conference was held in order to improve the information exchange between personality psychologists and I/O psychologists. The editors had sensed that both fields had limited themselves and had perhaps stagnated. Although I am not a fan of either field, the book would be important to those who are and it does a fine job of filling the gap.
Audience: According to the editors, the book should be useful to all members of the APA and especially those of the two fields. Both editors seem qualified for their task.
Features: The book describes both fields, personality psychology and I/O psychology, and then goes on to explore the interface. The book is well organized but dull.
Assessment: This book lists 20 contributors, all experts in the fields of personality and I/O psychology. To those psychologists, this book is a great unification of the most recent work to date.

Psychologists from North America and Britain explain to personality psychologists the preoccupations of industrial and organizational psychologists, and to industrial and organizational psychologists the benefits of incorporating personality psychology into their research. Personality psychology holds that behavior is determined by personality rather than by context, as is held by behavioralists. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
