Persuasione è l’ultimo romanzo scritto da Jane Austen; iniziato nel 1815, fu pubblicato postumo nel 1818. Al centro della vicenda Sir Walter Elliot, uomo orgoglioso e pieno di sé, e le sue tre figlie, Elizabeth, Anne e Mary. Rimasto vedovo assai presto, Sir Walter affida la giovane figlia Anne alla sua tutrice perché ne curi l’educazione. Anne si innamora di un giovane ufficiale di Marina ma la sua mentore ne sottolinea di continuo la mancanza di mezzi. Così, rompe il fidanzamento. Otto anni dopo rivede il suo grande amore. Pentita del passo compiuto a suo tempo, Anne diventa sempre più consapevole dei propri desideri e decide di giocarsi ogni possibilità.
