Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
As part of the "Discovering Cultures" series, the author of this title has provided readers with an endearing and informative look into the Peruvian world. The many facets of Peruvian life are richly described and give readers a real sense of the vast geographical and societal differences that exist throughout this country. Each page contains wonderful photographs that depict the colorfully diverse settings and cultural traditions that exist today. Specific factual information—such as the world famous Machu Picchu—is highlighted throughout, but is also restated at the end of the book as a quick overview for students. Major accomplishments of famous Peruvians are also included. A glossary at the end introduces words that are specific to Peruvian life, such as counting to ten in the Quechuan language. For students interested in learning more about Peru, a well-defined reference section provides further research assistance. 2005, Benchmark Books/Marshall Cavendish Corporation, Ages 9 to 12.
