School Library JournalK-Gr 2-Basic introductions for beginning readers. Each page has one sentence ("Frogs like to eat bugs") and a full-color photo. The pictures clearly depict the topic at hand, and often enhance it. Children of various ethnic backgrounds are shown caring for the animals. A "Fun Facts" section in each book summarizes and expands on the text; Crab also includes a labeled diagram of the creature. For curriculum units, pair Frog with such titles as Richard Headstrom's Frogs, Toads, and Salamanders as Pets (Washburn, 1972; o.p.), and match Crab with Lola Schaefer's Hermit Crabs (Heinemann Library, 2002) and Grace Maccarone's The Classroom Pet (Scholastic, 1995).-Cathie Bashaw Morton, Somers Library, NY Copyright 2002 Cahners Business Information.
