Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Melissa Rife
The four members of the Pet Club have run into a problem: they need to buy a gift for their teacher, but they have no money. Lucy, Jake, Kayla, and Andy each have a pet they love and they all love their teacher Mr. Carter. When Mr. Carter's birthday arrives, they want to get him a gift, but need a way to earn the money for it. They decide the best way is to have a pet wash. Throughout this simple story, the four friends wash and beautify the neighborhood pets. With just 283 words and very simple sentences, this book is a great for beginning readers. The vocabulary is repeated throughout the book to build confidence in the reader. The illustrations are bright and colorful and aid with the fun nature of the story. As a bonus, the last page lists several new words used in the story for further learning, as well as listing other titles in the "Pet Club" series. Reviewer: Melissa Rife
