PreS-Gr 1—Pete the Cat feels blue until Toad shares his "Cool, Blue, Magic sunglasses" that make birds sing, skies brighten, and the sun shine. He rides his skateboard down the sidewalk and encounters animal friends along the way who are also feeling unhappy or grumpy. He shares his glasses with Squirrel, Turtle, and Alligator to improve their moods, too, until he hits a crack in the sidewalk and his glasses go flying. Wise Old Owl reminds Pete that it doesn't take glasses to make him see things positively; he can find the good in every day on his own. Though fans of the feline may find this story less engaging than the earlier ones, the charming folk-style illustrations reflect the mood of the characters. An animated version of the story is available through the publisher's website.—Lindsay Persohn, University of South Florida, Tampa

In 2004, Kimberly & James Dean sat down at their kitchen table to work on a children's book together. Their dream has finally become a reality with the release of this new Pete the Cat book, Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses. Both left corporate jobs in the late nineties (James was an electrical engineer; Kimberly worked in the press office of the governor of Georgia) to pursue their passion for art, and they have experienced a life made up of strange and wonderful coincidences ever since. Pete the Cat has brought magic into their lives. They work in side-by-side studios in Savannah, sharing their home with five cats and Emma the pug.

Disappointed that Eric Litwin was not part of this book. His musical lyrics definitely made the previous Pete the Cat books a hit with children. Still had a good message though.

My children absolutely love this book! All the new Pete friends are a blast! We loved the songs from the first three books (not so much the Christmas song) but this book is just as good and has a great message.
Excited to see where Pete will go next!

It's a cute book -- maybe not as cute as Groovy Buttons or White Shoes, but very cute and a good message.

HOWEVER BE AWARE That the Barnes & Noble version DOES NOT include sunglasses. I've contacted customer service twice and they just sent me an email officially saying they are all out of the ones with sunglasses.

    Highly recommend

This is the cutest book. My Grandson loves it. He puts the glasses on and I read the book. The Pete books have a message of how we are to act and react to life.

Not what I was hoping for

Bummer to find out that this book is not animated like its sister book "New Shoes". Not sure if I would purchase again.

We are big fans of Pete the Cat! This books is very nice and my son seems to like it although it's not as fun as the others with the songs. Also, my book was missing the glasses =/

    No Glasses

You can't go wrong with Pete the Cat, however...The description of this book says that it comes with Magic sunglasses, but mine did NOT!! I am a preschool teacher & was looking forward to reading this to my children with my magic sunglasses but I had to make my own :(

kind of fun, my 4 year old granddaughter got a kick out of it

Problems ordering book on-line, it did not arrive with the sunglasses as promised. Took a second order, still not right, problems with communicating with the foreign speaking representative. Finally had to take the book into the actual store to get it straightened out. A lot of rigamarole, but had to have it for Christmas!
