Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

"The wheels on the bus go round and round..." In this Pete the Cat tale, the wheels on the bus don't just circle in hypnotic repetitions; they create the basis of a funny school bus ride that will make kids giggle with appreciation. A favorite kids' song in a pleasing new version.

Children's Literature - Tima Murrell
Pete the Cat is driving a bus for all of the little kittens and one small dog. Following the same rhyming pattern of the popular children’s song, the book takes the reader on a journey through a day of sounds with Pete. The book is written to follow the song, so it is not written in typical narration. Young readers will enjoy the rhyming patterns that can be either read or sung. The illustrator has filled each page with color which helps to bring the story alive. The different fonts make the writing stand out on the brightly colored pages. The simplistic illustrations will appeal to the young reader’s eyes. It could help little singers develop an interest in reading. Young fans of Pete the Cat will love this book and want to add it to their favorites. If children are not familiar with the Pete the cat books yet, they can still enjoy the illustrations and lyrical wording. Reviewer: Tima Murrell AGERANGE: Ages 4 to 8.

K-Gr 1—Cool dude Pete the Cat is now driving a yellow school bus and picking up kitties along his route. After covering the traditional lines about horns that go "beep, beep, beep" and wipers that go "swish, swish, swish," this book offers up a surprise conclusion. Pete picks up one lone dog and a few pages later, the pooch is seen driving the bus, while Pete the Cat croons from the rooftop, "Let's Rock Out!" The colorful yellow and blue artwork rendered in the artist's familiar pen-and-ink and watercolor will remind fans of the other Pete books, with their hero sporting that deadpan stare. If your library doesn't already have too many "Wheels on the Bus" clones, Pete the Cat's version is cool.—Blair Christolon, Prince William Public Library System, Manassas, VA

Very disappointing. I love Pete the Cat Nook books - he is always singing and my granddaughter loves them. But, in this book there is only someone reading the book. And for $6.99 - definitely not worth it.

Great variation on a classic song!

Our son loves this song and it's nice to have a variation on this song in book form. The illustrations, like all Pete the Cat books, are bold, primary colors that are eye catching. This is a fun one to read!

Not the Pete the Cat we fell in love with

My kids were so disappointed, as was I, Wittthis Pete the Cat book. We are huge fans of the first 3 Pete books, and this one did not measure up. All it did was say the words to the wheels on the bus song. We often buy Pete on the nook so we can hear the sing song parts of the story. There was none of that in this book. Not the Pete the cat we fell in love with. I will read the book in the store before I buy from now on. I feel like this was a waste for us. My kids are uninterested in reading it again.

    Not for Young Toddlers

Cute take off on the song. However, the book is not a board book. I would not recommend it for young toddlers.

I received this book free of charge from Children's Lit in exchange for my honest review.
