Peter Pan [Original Motion Picture Soundtrack]

All Music Guide - James Christopher Monger
The producers were wise in their choosing of James Newton Howard to compose the score for P.J. Hogan's big screen rendering of J.M. Barrie's famous children's book, Peter Pan. The former Elton John keyboardist's work on M. Night Shyamalan's Sixth Sense and Signs showcased his ability to blend suspense and whimsy, and skillfully paint a scene from a child actor's point of view. For Peter Pan, Howard builds the dreamy world of "Neverland" with harps, choirs, and the occasional keyboard flourish, fleshing out the characters with fairy tale precision, and creating a believable realm in the same fashion that John Williams handled the magical world of Harry Potter. The string motifs he chooses for Wendy and Peter are steeped in the bittersweet confusion of sexual awakening, and the eternally youthful Lost Boys are treated with a light hand, hinting at their enviable immortality. "Howard" goes to great lengths to capture the myth of Peter Pan, never dumbing it down. His is a darker take on a story that has spent years in the hands of cartoonists, and it delivers the tale a much-needed edge.

    Amazing Piece of Sound Art

When i first saw the movie i was taken back at how beautiful the music was! It just takes you to a completely different place. It is great for finding inspiration while writing or painting. An absolute must for any abstract mind seeking a new place to discover within itself.

    Fantastic Fantasy Music

I am a well known Fantasy artist and when I first heard this music on a page in MySpace, I fell in love with it, wanting to hear it while I paint. Searched for the way to find it and found out it was scores from Peter Pan movie. After hearing the real music at home after buying it, I was thrilled over the fact that most of the music is A+ to paint with or relax and day dream over. I highly reccommend this sound track if you like all instumental upbeat daydream music.

    We all enjoy it

The music is rich and full with interesting melody lines. It's one of those CD's that can be put on in the car and we'll all enjoy it -- except for when we have to listen to it twenty times in one week! My daughter, age 15, especially is fond of the music.

    great score

I loved every track on this cd. The music is composed wonderfully and each one is thought-out and played to perfectly suit whatever the track is accompanying. The music between Peter and Wendy, especially, is heartrending and you can pick up a subtle sadness and resignation to growing up (Peter Returns, also in Is That a Kiss). 'Flying' is also one of the best tracks, I still get tingly every time I hear it - that's a good sign!

    Well done!

I saw this CD when I was at the store with my mom and immediately bought it, remembering the music from when I'd seen the movie at the theater. It's great! "Flying" is the best song on the CD. I can't stop listening to it! Other songs, such as "I do Believe in Fairies" are great too. The whole CD is in fact. If you like the movie or if you haven't seen it but you like music, Get this!!!!!

    Wonderful sound, awesome effect

When I listen to this cd I feel as if I am in the setting of a wonderland, filled with childish fantasies and the sparkling world of Peter pan. This is probably one of my many cds in my collection and I would say that this is definatly one of my favorites. I encourage you to buy it. It brings out the child in you.

    Great Soundtrack.

Peter Pan soundtrack has great songs to listen to. The orchestra plays it very well. Each song has different moods that contrast to the way the actors are acting it out on the big screen. I listen to this cd everyday, and it helps me relax...even at night when I'm sleeping.
