Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
This board book is packaged with a DVD. The 20-minute long presentation is quite well done. It takes kids to various farms and introduces them to the animals. The pictures are striking, and generally the information shows animals in an open environment. The only one that seems a bit strange is the section about pigs which appears to show them living in cages. The book invites readers to meet a variety of animals who live at the farm. The opening spread is a pictorial table of contents. The text also makes a game of the learning experience. The goat is pictured and described, and the sounds it makes are printed at the bottom of the page. Kids see a close-up picture, learn the sounds, and can match the picture to the one on the opening spread. A few of the animals have textured body parts—a soft pink nose for the pig, fluffy yellow feathers for the duck, bristle hairs on the mane of the horse, and a wooly forehead on the lamb. The only animal that does not really make a sound of its own is the rabbit. It is featured with "Crunch! Crunch!"—the sound it makes eating. The photographs are excellent, and kids should really enjoy their visit to the farm both in the book and on the DVD. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
