From The CriticsReviewer: Thomas Jacobsen, PharmD, MS, RPh, FASCP (ViroPharma Incorporated)
Description: This is a practical guide to the role of the clinical pharmacist.
Purpose: It is written as a guide for clinical pharmacists involved in providing pharmaceutical care.
Audience: This book will benefit current clinical pharmacists, residents, and students who are in their clinical rotation phase. The authors are all clinical pharmacists with a wealth of pharmaceutical care experience.
Features: The first of the book's three sections covers the basics of pharmaceutical care, the second covers specific therapeutic problems, and the third covers case studies in pharmaceutical care. This highly illustrated book contains numerous therapeutic flow charts. It also provides access to a website filled with online resources not found in the book.
Assessment: This is a well written introductory text in pharmaceutical care. This book attempts to fill a niche for a more streamlined text than the more comprehensive ones edited by DiPiro (Pharmacotherapy: A Pathophysiologic Approach, 6th edition, (McGraw-Hill Companies, 2005)) or Koda-Kimble (Applied Therapeutics: The Clinical Use of Drugs, 8th edition (Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, 2005)). In time, a second edition will be necessary to keep current with new practices.
