Overview

Ideal for introductory pharmacology courses, LWW's Pharmacology for the Health Professions offers a concise introduction to pharmacological concepts for students in the health professions. Now in a fully updated Second Edition, this full-color text provides a solid foundation in the basic principles of pharmacology, including the actions, indications, contradictions, and adverse effects of drug classes. A companion website offers animations and self-study materials for students and teaching resources for faculty.

The 2nd edition includes fully-revised drug tables (both in print and online), and new chapters in Math Review and Complementary and Alternative Medicine. It also offers students a wealth of online resources (interactive activities, online modules, and case studies) to help them learn, study, and retain the key concepts from the text/course.

Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Barbara L Giacomelli, PharmD., MBA (McKesson Provider Technologies)
Description: As a basic pharmacology book for health professionals, this is written for students with knowledge of common disease states and provides information on the medication therapies for treating them.
Purpose: It provides drug therapy information to assist in patient management for common disease states. It does meet these objectives, but does not go into as much depth as other pharmacology books.
Audience: Aimed at students, the book provides the general pharmacology information needed for the education of healthcare professionals who will be in a position to prescribe.
Features: Chapters are grouped according to different body systems, conditions that affect the system, and the drug therapy used. It provides drug therapy information as well as common adverse effects, dosing, and side effects. Numerous tables and charts help reinforce the material.
Assessment: This book provides a foundation in pharmacology. It is not intended to cover all medications or healthcare conditions, but it does present enough information on the topic to give students a basic understanding.
