Phenolic Metabolism in Plants

Overview

This compendium of in-depth reviews summarizes the last three decades of research on the metabolism of phenolics and outlines the current state of the field. Phenolic Metabolism in Plants begins with a discussion of the enzymology of the aromatic pathway in plants, which includes the shikimate, phenylpropanoid, and flavonoid sections; and an explanation of the use of immunology to determine the subcellular localization of secondary products. Contributors demonstrate techniques for elucidating the molecular ...

Contributors demonstrate techniques for elucidating the molecular biology of genes involved in phenylpropanoid pathways, and detail the genetics of anthocyanin formation with an emphasis on chalcone synthase, chalcone isomerase, and dihydroflavonol reductase enzymic steps. Other papers in this compilation cover: isoflavonoid pathways; the effects of flavonoids released into the rhizosphere on mycorrhizal fungi; the enzymology and molecular cloning of sulfated flavonols; the chemical synthesis and rearrangements of proanthocyanidins; lignans and neolignans; and the enzymology of hydrolyzable tannins. Phytochemists, plant biochemists, and ecologists will find Phenolic Metabolism in Plants a useful guide to current concepts in the field.
