Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Voya Reviews
These three new titles in the Great Sports Teams series follow the same format as earlier titles such as The Green Bay Packers Football Team and The Duke Blue Devils Men's Basketball Team (both Enslow, 1999/VOYA February 2000) with a brief team history, selected great players, leading coaches, and highs and lows through the years. Both Pietrusza and Macnow choose well when highlighting a key athlete, such as Brooks Robinson and Jim Palmer of the Orioles, Christy Mathewson and Willie Mays of the Giants, and Bernie Parent and Ron Hextall of the Flyers. Some diverting items are disclosed among the straightforward sports facts. Readers learn that on one evening in the 1970s, Flyers coach Fred Shero, nicknamed Freddie the Fog because he always seemed dazed, walked down an arena corridor to think through some strategy. Shero kept going and walked right out into the parking lot and was locked out of the game. Although Philadelphia is nicknamed the City of Brotherly Love, in the 1970s the Flyers earned their city another nickname because of their rough-and-tough playing at the time--the City of Brotherly Shove! Because these books are extremely thin, with large print and many color and black-and-white photos, they have a very juvenile look. Nevertheless they also will be enjoyed by the reluctant reader and by those who simply want a thumbnail sketch of a team. NOTE: This review was written to address three titles. Glossary. Index. Photos. Charts. Source Notes. Further Reading. VOYA CODES: 3Q 2P M J (Readable without serious defects; For the YA with a special interest in the subject; Middle School, defined as grades 6 to 8; Junior High, defined as grades 7 to 9). 2000, Enslow, Ages 12 to15, 48p. cool book

Philadelphia Flyers Nathan Aaseng `# pages 32 5 stars The Philadelphia flyers were an aggressive hockey team. Over the years they had a lot of wins and losses and had a lot of wins. The team had mind blowing players such as Brain prop, Reggie leach and rookie Scott malleably. The player on this team were known as there enforcers they lead the team to some winning season and some loosing seasons. The season were changing each year cause of the coaching problem every year the team would get a new coach and that did not help the financial system also known as there stadium because with out a winning team know body wanted to buy the tickets. I recommend this book to people who like sports. This tells about how good the flyers were and how bad they were. You should read this book because it has a lot of info on hockey and how it is played. That¿s why you should read this book . Thomas Wright HM 105
