Editorial Reviews

NightOwlReviews.Com - Bryan Bales
Philadelphia Story was almost like 1946's The Big Sleep was meeting up with a more modern version of Detective Phillip Marlow. It had a flow that, while at times was predictable, was incredibly smooth for the most part. Sarte does a great job of allowing his readers a glimpse of Philadelphia and its rich history, as well as spinning a tale that is fast paced and right in your face until the end. About the only con of the story is that the main character has a bit of a perverted streak in him, wh

Private Investigator Lance Carter lives in Philadelphia and is a former Navy Seal. Although he is a tough guy who can handle himself, he seems to run into trouble at every turn. As things go along, one case he is working on runs into another but he just can't figure out how or why. While trying to protect a deceased long-time friend's daughter who he was close with ten years before, he finds the common thread that puts him and those around him in severe danger.

The author has developed many interesting characters, Copper, Carter’s dog and faithful companion, and Betsy his favorite gun. Then there are the no nonsense tough guy Linc Diesel, another special ops guy and his unofficial partner along with Gabby who was in the Marines and is a tech junkie who helps Lance figure out the case: a diverse bunch you’d like to see.

This story grabs you from the start and doesn’t let go. The characters are very well-developed: both good guys and bad. I quickly identified with the main protagonist, Lance (Lancelot) Carter, somewhat a rascal in his own right. I liked his struggle to find out the correct answers to his newest dilemma. The plot is very well developed, leading the reader in one direction and then expertly shifting to another. Although not fond of explicit language, I realized that in some situations it could be needed to adequately define the events. I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to any lover of detective fiction.

    Well done plot and characters

The Philadelphia Story plot is a very well done Private Investigator novel with just the right number of twists and turns. The writing is superb and emotions, characters and settings are described expertly. The book does a wonderful job of explaining what makes Lance tic which is one of the greatest assets of this book. You get to know Lance and end up coming to the conclusion that this character is real but that there really are men like this in the world. The rest of the characters are equally rich and enjoyable. I hope that this book is the first in a series of Lance Carter Detective stories. Recommended
