Philip Glass: Songs and Poems for Solo Cello

4.0 1
by Wendy Sutter

Ms. Sutter is quoted in the notes describing the work as "massively tragic".... You finally see what Ms. Sutter means when you reach the work’s centerpiece, "Song V," with its intensely arching melodies, implied dialogues and passionate double-stopped passages. Ms. Sutter’s rich-hued, supple playing conveys that passion and drama vividly.

Editorial Reviews

Philadelphia Inquirer - David Patrick Stearns
1/2 Wendy Sutter's disc is exceptional. Though Glass tends to be emotionally aloof, these solo cello pieces are downright impassioned, aided by performances that have the dramatic specificity of a great rhetorical monologue.
