Philosophy: What It Is And Why We Need It.
What is the point of studying philosophy?

And what is philosophy, anyway? Isn't it just a bunch of crazy people who think that reality doesn't exist and we can't know for sure whether we are conscious? Moreover, since there are many competing philosophies out there, is there some way to actually determine the truth, or does one's life philosophy always end up being just a matter of opinion?

In this engaging, informative, and often lively book, Tom Blackstone seeks to answer these as well as many more important philosophical questions. Drawing upon its history from Ancient Greece to modern times and through an analysis of its central questions, Blackstone argues that philosophy can provide us with objective knowledge of the truth and is of vital importance to human life.

About the Author

Tom Blackstone first discovered philosophy at the age of 18, when he read Ayn Rand's "The Fountainhead". He decided at that time that he wanted to live a life like that of Howard Roark; a life of reason, purpose, and self-esteem. He spent the next 15 years studying all of the influential philosophers of the past: Plato, Aristotle, Epicurus, Descartes, Kant and many others along with lots and lots of Ayn Rand. He co-founded the Objectivist Society of Savannah, GA and founded the Kennesaw State University Objectivist Club. He currently resides in Brunswick, GA, where he makes his living as a search engine evaluator and business marketing writer.
