Overview

Weeks after his crucifixion and rebirth as Phoenix, Ash Fisher believes his troubles are far behind him. He and Natalie are engaged and life seems good. But his happiness is short-lived when he receives a threatening visit from Purian Rose, who gives Ash an ultimatum: vote in favor of Rose’s Law permanently relegating Darklings to the wrong side of the wall or Natalie will be killed.

The decision seems obvious to Ash; he must save Natalie. But when Ash learns about The Tenth, a new and deadly concentration camp where the Darklings would be sent, the choice doesn’t seem so simple. Unable to ignore his conscience, Ash votes against Rose’s Law, signing Natalie’s death warrant and putting a troubled nation back into the throes of bloody battle.

Editorial Reviews

Kirkus Reviews
The turgid adventures of a half-breed vampire and the human girl who loves him continue (Black City, 2012). Having been crucified and burned and then resurrected, Ash is now known as the Phoenix, the poster boy for the Humans for Unity rebellion (though far from a Christ figure, despite obvious symbolism). On the eve of the vote that will determine whether vampire Darklings and other Impurities will be permanently confined in ghettos, he proposes to girlfriend Natalie, who accepts with cloyingly girlish delight. The vote goes badly; evil dictator Purian Rose cracks down on Black City. With sexy Bastet Elijah, Ash and Natalie flee, hoping to find a supposed superweapon that can shift the balance of power. (In addition to humans and vampires, this alternative, weakly steampunk-y North America has cat- and wolf-people, though their attributes are as arbitrary as everything else.) The boilerplate dystopian present-tense narration alternates between Ash's and Natalie's identical voices, ploddingly describing every action and overwrought emotion. Natalie worries she is infected with the Wrath, a deadly vampire disease; in order to spare Ash, she hides it from him, a transparent and tedious device evidently meant to boost the romantic tension. People die, bloodily; allies turn traitor; breasts heave. When Natalie isn't engaging in unlikely heroics, she vomits a lot--is it the Wrath, or…? Just as dreadful as the first book. (Paranormal romance. 14 & up)

    Loving it

First I wanted to say thanks to the publishers for letting me win this book on Goodreads. :D

So I'm just having so much feels right now! I thought it was just as amazing as the first book!

Okay so this starts off a few months after the first book. Purian Rose corners Ash into an ultimatum. Choose his love or his people. So he chooses correctly which starts the war. During this, in comes Elijah (we met him briefly in the last book). *Drools a little here* He lets them in on the knowledge of a weapon that can help defeat Rose. They set off on this journey to find it. Lots of interesting stuff happens to them which I won't go into detail.

This book has it all: fighting, romance, secrets, rescue missions, betrayal, and shocking events. What more can you ask for? It's going to suck waiting until next year to find out what happens. 2014 can not come soon enough!

    Great book

Great follow up to Black City. I'm not big on loose ends and no closure when I finish a book but that is the point, I guess. Can't wait for the next book. HURRY!

    CHAPTA 5 TRIVIA!

Once again, not much is said. Dynablade, as the namesake may know, came out of a character application. Also, I was going to put in a "Turbo" reference by Dynablade screeching and Epic saying "Don't you screech at me!" but I felt like that wasn't a good idea. Ok, Epicness out!

    Woahhh

This book had the mix of tear jerking, heart stopping, unbeilievable moments. & holy cow - did I fall in love with Elijah. That boy... if i could get me a guy like that. I'd also like to say that their was a lot of betrayal & death in this book which made me gasp & clench my heart & say NO WAY! The next book can't come soon enough. I'll be graduated from high school by then. :/

Another great read from Elizabeth Richards!

I loved book 2! This was a great continuation from book 1. The story picked up right where book 1 left off. Suspense, lots of romance, intrigue, kept me turning pages and wanting to reach the end. I fell in love with Ash and Natalie's story and I am vested in their outcome. Can't wait for book 3! Please hurry and get here.

Starts with a bang and it feels like I never left this dark

Starts with a bang and it feels like I never left this dark world. Get right back into ash's head as he's forced to make an impossible decision. Natalie or his people... All while leading a revolt healing from burns and fighting nightmares of burning from the attempted execution from the first book.
The thing that draws me most though is the romance between Ash and Natalie. I Love their chemistry, moments together, physical and the soul sharing.
Action and complications are never far behind though so I treasured each of those moments.
The weird love triangle type thing both infuriated me and enthralled me. I saw the appeal of Elijah and understood what he saw in natalie but i am a big ash.fan so it didn't fly for me in the end. So I am glad that there was more than what it was at the surface, and that nothing too stupid of a line was crossed. Understood why ash thought it and what he saw. His pain was so intense but still loyal... Which brings me back to the reason that I love Ash so much. Natalie was actually hiding something else, that i never saw coming and took my breath away.
The pacing is intense and I loved the dual narration that continues in this one because I loved seeing both Ash and Natalie's perspectives.
It ended leaving me yearning for the next book, which I will be getting my hands on the day it releases to find out what happens next.
