Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Naomi Milliner
The second of eight books in the "Myth-O-Mania" series, this is Hades' version of what really happened between Persephone and himself. To begin with, Hades claims his brother Zeus is "the Biggest Liar in the Universe," and that he tricked Hades out of his rightful place (as eldest) as king of the gods. Despite this, however, Hades is very satisfied to rule the Underworld, and quite content with his lot...that is, until Persephone comes along. Determined to escape her clingy mom (who is constantly phoning and leaving voice messages), Persephone secretly hitches a ride to the Underworld on the back of Hades' chariot. After reluctantly giving her a tour, Hades enlists the aid of his friends, The Furies, to trick Persephone and bring her back to earth. The next day, she tricks him, by inviting him to a picnic where Cupid shoots him. Next thing you know, Hades falls in love and proposes. Will they live happily ever after? Not if Zeus and Demeter can help it! A very funny—and punny ("Motel Styx") book, this is both a wonderful read for students who already enjoy mythology, as well as an entertaining introduction for those new to it. Extras include a who's who and what's what in mythology, a glossary, a guide to Roman numerals (which are used throughout the book in funny ways, like XXIV/VII for 24/7), and the original tale of Persephone. Go ahead and buy the whole series!
