    Pretty good, not GREAT, comprehensive.

Personally, a lot of it was info I already knew, but served as a nice reminder of that info. It would be marvelous for someone who has never read about composition in the past.

Not thrilled with the photos, I think they could have been much better and still illustrated the point. They were a bit simplistic and looked dated. The text was better than the photos, but even the text was stilted and pedantic.

Depending on what you already know:

If this is your first foray into composition, it's great.

If this is not your first rodeo, then it's a good reminder of the rules.

Don't get me wrong, I'd recommend it to anyone, there are few books on the subject that are as comprehensive and I do not regret buying it. I just think it could be made better. Someone needs to take the various chapter headings and rewrite the text and update the photos.

Hmm, sounds like I don't like it, but I think it's currently as good as it gets for a subject that doesn't get as much attention as it should.

    A Camera and a Clue

Ok, you have that brand new beauty in your hands but you want to shoot like the pros but they seemed to see things you can't find. Even if you have the "gift eye" you need some composition clues. Every photographer learns and grows. Spend just a few dollars on this outstanding book of composition and photography guidelines.

It's rich and deep so you are going to be in it for awhile but then you are going to be into photography for the rest of your life. Oh yes, you do have time for this book and it won't break your bank and you will look at things a bit smarter at the end of the day.

Having said that, here is another tip on how to use this book or text. Read a little then go shoot what you learned. Come back and read it again and voila, oh, my! It makes sense!

This book is serious about teaching you total image control through effective design. there that's a mouthful for you. While your learning your apertures and shutter speed combos that capture the most emotionally lighted scenes, learn how to see the perfect compostion.

Remember, photography is a visual art as well as craft, so you need to work on and study both aspects, Grasshopper.
