Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Everyone has old photographs stored in a shoebox or album. Storing them electronically allows for the preservation and, in some cases, the enhancement of these irreplaceable mementos. Both of these works feature a new angle on Adobe Photoshop training by focusing on retouching. Although the majority of techniques discussed here are found in every other Photoshop book (e.g., Carla Rose's SAMS Teach Yourself Adobe Photoshop 6 in 24 Hours, Computer Media, LJ 4/1/01), both authors do a good job of walking readers through the process. Kiteley's volume is an e-book available for Macintosh and PC. It comes only as a CD-ROM in PDF format and requires Adobe Acrobat to read (a free download from the Adobe site). Eismann's book is an attractive, paper equivalent of Kiteley's work, covering almost exactly the same techniques. Pass on both if you already have a Photoshop title; if not, I prefer the presentation of Eismann's volume. Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.

    Excellent !!!

This is a thin book. So thin that it almost slipped through my eyes. It doesn't waste a single page on explanation of the Photoshop layout and file menu (like in the rest 9.5 out of 10 books). No lenghthy theoretical explanation which is practically useless. Everything is simple, clear, and concise. From Beginners to Advanced users, if you are looking for a single book for digital photo retouching, this is the one.

    The Secret is Out!

My developer always does an outstanding job on his own photos... now I know his secret for perfect blends and touch-ups as well as great restorations. It's hard to do a perfect photo-shoot for a web, but this book makes it possible. And those old baby photos... this book provides the user a way to preserve those treasured images.

Best book for true photo corrections

I agree with all the other reviewers, you can't go wrong with this book. If you have ever taken a picture through a window and need to remove the reflected light (blue gray tint) this book will tell you how. The book gives real cures that work and even the amateur can use them. It is wonderful to watch a picture come to life before your eyes as you apply the book's techniques. Don't buy this book as your initial training on Photoshop, it assumes you know how to find and use all the tools. This simply tells you how to use them better.

    Worth its weight in platinum!

I wish I could give this more than 5 stars! I have had this book in my posession for only a few short weeks, and I have learned so much from it already! I've been a Photshop user since v.1, but I'm always learning new things¿this book has opened up a whole new dimension to photo retouching. Very easy to follow Ms. Eismann's instructions, and it is set up to where you can flip to the section you need information on and follow it. If you are even thinking of getting this book¿DO IT!! You won't be sorry.

    This book rocks!

I have to say that this book is a true gem. Buy this book, you will not regret it. I came across it by pure accident and I have used some of the techniques and they are the best. Katrin Eismann has written a truly awesome book. There are many books on photoshop that are the pretenders, well, this book is the real deal. The examples are truly outstanding and fun to follow. I give this book above and beyond 5 stars. This is more like a 7 star book. Enjoy!

    I can't put this book down !

This is, by far one of the best books on photo restoration and retouching that I've come across yet. Believe me I have purchased tons (well, not really tons:)of books. Most of the pages are in color which makes it much easier to understand the work she's doing and the fact that you can download the pics from the web to complete the tutorial is just wonderful. Seriously, I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! you will not regret buying it. Okay, enough said, I have to get back to my book. I am now a lifelong fan of Katrin Eismann. Actually, I wanted to rate it higher than 5 Stars.

    Photo Retouching for Photographers

This is one of the truly great books on using and producing with graphic software. It isn't written for beginners, but it deals with using Photoshop for one of its main goals, to repair photos. You won't get bored with long dialogs on the technical aspects of tools. You will learn what they do and how to use them - a rarity in technical books on software. I haven't seen anything close and I have several Photoshop handbooks. If you are a photographer, this is a must.
