This is a new book on the physical characterization of solids used in pharmaceutical research and manufacturing. The purpose is to outline the physical properties of pharmaceutical solids and describe the available techniques to characterize them at molecular, particular, and bulk levels. This is an important area because majority of the current dosage forms are prepared as solids. The book largely meets its objectives. The book is intended for industrial scientists working on the manufacture of solid dosage forms and graduate students in pharmaceutics programs. The author and contributors are credible in their respective areas. The quantity and the quality of the graphs, diagrams, charts, and tables appear to be appropriate. The references are fairly current and pertinent. This is a very useful book for practitioners in the pharmaceutical industry. Even though the majority of current drug products are formulated in solid dosage forms, the physical characterization of solids has received little attention in the past, which may result in serious problems associated with the final product and manufacturing process. This book attempts to fill the need of knowledge in this neglected area. The book is well organized, and topics are appropriately covered.
