Introduce your child to 10 of Claude Monet's world-renowned paintings with this vibrant and accessible text. Rhyming words accompany the art, creating a magical countryside picnic. The board book format is just right for small and curious hands. Scholastic Parent & Child

Two more board book entries with rhyming text by Julie Merberg and Suzanne Bober introduce masterpieces to youngest art lovers. In Dancing with Degas, children enter a magical world of ballerinas and tutus, and A Picnic with Monet takes children through the countryside and back to the city. At the end, the works are identified along with the museums where they are housed. Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature
Board books that can introduce a lesson or fine art and make it work seamlessly with the text are rare. This book along with its companion Dancing with Degas succeed in telling a kid friendly story using the work of a great artist to do so. It is a wonderful combination. Monet painted a variety of outdoor scenes which makes it possible to create this adventure. It opens with a call to get aboard a train and as we ride along, we pass through a field of red poppies, see a flock of white turkeys and finally arrive at a secret garden. After lunch there are quiet activities such as reading a book in a shady spot or crossing a bridge to look at the beautiful water lilies or watch the sailboats. Then it is time to head back to the city. The paintings in the book are all identified on the concluding page (title, date, and where the original can be seen). A great choice for schools and personal collections. 2003, Chronicle Books, Ages 3 to 6.
