Children's LiteratureThis book is written for an adult to read with a child, giving directions about what to do to make a color wheel, information about different painting techniques, etc. But, the book would be more useful for a teacher to use in a classroom. The author chooses a particular artist and his or her painting. Then, several questions are asked about the painting to help young children understand what is going on in the picture. For example, one question about ballerinas painted by Degas states, "If you could turn this picture on like a movie, what would happen next?" Then the art project is to draw people in motion with pastels, in the style of Degas. Other artists in this book include Claude Monet, Camille Pissarro, Auguste Renoir, and Mary Cassatt. Each chapter includes an art project children can use to learn about the particular artist. The book ends with short biographies of the artists. 2004, Watson-Guptill Publications, Ages Adult.
