Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Byrne is internationally known for his acting in numerous films, such as Into the West and Miller's Crossing, and for being the producer of the Oscar-nominated In the Name of the Father. Now he will be known as a writer of memoirs as well. His book begins as the story of his boyhood in 1950s Dublin, with vivid descriptions of his home, the pubs, and the streets, as well as of his stint as a novice at a seminary in Wales. He also writes of his first love, his beginnings as an actor in Dublin's vibrant theater scene, and the birth of his two children. In each chapter, Byrne's voice comes across like the voiceover in a film. His descriptions of Hollywood, of a big-budget production in Eastern Europe, and of his return to Ireland for a break are particularly engaging. Byrne has many stories to tell, and his readers will hope for more in the near future. This absorbing autobiography is recommended for both public and academic libraries. Lisa N. Much Better Than Expected!

Gabriel Byrne's Pictures In My Head was a much better book than I expected it to be. I knew this man was intelligent but I was almost surprised at how poetic and eloquent his writing is. I didn't want to put it down.

A wonderful and Delightful tale of an actor's journey

I have never been so impressed by an actor's ability to convey his life story without actually writting a biography. The simplistic qualities it has will trap you with interest as to what is to come in his journey from young dublin born boy to an experienced theatrical actor. One can only see that his interests lie in poetry, for often I am caught up in his poetric wording. This book is for anyone who has ever liked good life stories and poetry. Gabriel Byrne's fans only hope that he continues to write from his heart and allow his readers to go deep into his soul. I assure readers that this book is an excellent addition to any collection!!!

Never has a book been so beyond it's cover!

I read Mr. Byrne's book with the impression that perhaps he had written a biography but I never been so impressed by an actor's ability to bring the readers into the story of his life from dublin born boy to hollywood actor and star. I couldn't put the book down! Never has a book been so beyone it's cover and lept into the emotions of the reader. Byrne has included his poetry, life friends, and family's stories into a book that challenges one's imagination. Anyone who has ever had an interest in this actor should at least read the first chapter of the book before deciding becausse I beat it will interest you. One can venture into his thoughts, beliefs, and deep loves and find out who GAbriel Byrne really is. An actor, author, father, and writer.

    Great Book!

It has been such a long time since I have picked up a book to just read. I have seen Mr Byrne in 5 or 6 of his movies and have found him to be an excellent actor, so when I found out about his book I decided to get and read it. I'm so very glad I got the book!! I couldn't put it down! His book is very descriptive in every aspect. I peraonnally feel that Mr. Byrne should do more writing.
