These accessible, sharp, and often funny poems are a refreshing reminder that poetry is first and foremost a pleasure. Wry and wise, the poet in this book inhabits the film worlds of Matthew Barney, Laurel and Hardy, Budd Schulburg, and Sonja Henie with a deft, light touch. This book continues the career of a poet more of us should be reading.

If you like your poetry shaken and not stirred, Brock is your man. Pictures That Got Small presents a panorama of America that has been overlooked by the nattering nabobs of the New York literary scene. Part prophet, part court jester, James Brock tells it like it is...the good, the bad, the ugly, the America that exists outside the confines of the so-called Smart Set. This is real poetry for real Americans.
